Abstract: To connect an old-model antenna receptacle (40) to a new-model car radio antenna connector (50), a unitary conversion plug is provided which has an outer tubular conductor (19) secured over an insulating sleeve (20), formed with a central opening within which an inner conductor (12, 18) is located. The inner conductor has a pin portion (18) projecting from and fitting into the old-model receptacle, and a bushing-like receptacle portion (15), electrically coupled directly or via a capacitor (FIGS. 7-11) to the pin portion, the bushing-like receptacle portion being adapted to receive a central connecting pin of the new-model antenna plug (50).
Abstract: In a method for controlling the demagnetization phase of electromagnetic devices, particularly electromagnetic valves in combustion engines, the exciting current i=i(t), starting from a high holding current value, is decreased not to zero or even to a negative value, but to a value in the positive range below the holding current. Because of the characteristic current and/or voltage values which accordingly occur in the excitation circuit, the start of the opening and the end of the opening of the valve needle of the electromagnetic valve can be determined in a particularly precise manner and can be taken into account for an optimal influencing of the manner of operation of the combustion engine (FIG. 3).

Abstract: The control magnet is secured with cap screws on a cap of a control mechanism of an injection pump by means of a holder element, which is a two-armed leaf spring having pre-stressing. The leaf spring has a middle section which comes to rest flush on the magnet core and both arms come to rest flush on a support face of the cap. The spring force spring stressing of the two-armed leaf spring pre-stressed in this manner has an effect of keeping the control magnet secured such that it is not jarred loose even in the event of high acceleration peaks of the injection pump.
Abstract: A packaging system, in which a plurality of production machines supplying one high-capacity packaging machine has a plurality of readying devices and transfer apparatuses for the articles that are to be packaged. In order to transfer the readied articles gently and at the correct times to product buckets of the conveyor apparatus of the packaging machine, the individual transfer apparatuses are each driven by one highly dynamic electric motor in such a way that a dog of the transfer apparatus approaches a readied article slowly, then accelerates the article and then transfers the article at a synchronized speed to a bucket. The individual electric motors are controlled by a central guidance system having a process computer. The guidance system can be arbitrarily programmed such that the transfer apparatuses are not rigidly aligned with a certain succession of buckets of the conveyor apparatus, but instead can fill each successive bucket, depending on the operation of the production machines.

Abstract: A fuel injection pump of a distributor injection pump type in which a quantity adjusting device is an annular slide that is axially displaceable on a fuel injection quantity regulator and which can additionally be rotated by a torque device. With the aid of this torque device, the control effectiveness of a second control edge, for instance in the form of a rectangular groove is controlled. The torque device is equipped with a clutch, which is embodied either via a spring or via a cam race. The torque device is actuated via an adjusting lever connected to the annular slide adjusting lever that serves to arbitrarily vary the fuel injection quantity at the direction of the driver of the motor vehicle.
Abstract: In order to provide a magnetic recording head with a broadband signal with minimum distortion from the reactances of wire connections and the like, a voltage controlled current source is used to feed equivalent circuits representing a magnetic head like the recording head in an output that is taken from that current source at a point that reflects the effect of the equivalent circuit to operate the controlled voltage source for providing the driving current for the recording head. Instead of a parallel coil and resistor combination in series with another resistor, the equivalent circuit can consist of another magnetic head of the same kind as the recording magnetic head but not used for recording. In practice differential or complementary cascode amplifiers are used for the voltage controlled current source at the signal input and differential or complementary final stage amplifiers are used for driving the recording head through a rotary transformer or broadband recording on tape.
Abstract: A soot reservoir for an exhaust gas scrubbing system for an internal combustion engine has a housing, having an inlet for introducing a soot-laden carrier flow diverted from the exhaust gas flow and an outlet for the escape of the scrubbed carrier flow, a soot filter disposed between the inlet and outlet for retaining soot particles, and a removable collecting container for receiving the trapped soot. To attain a large storage capacity of the collecting container, a number of compacting balls are placed loosely in it. Hopping and rolling movements of the balls caused by the motion of the vehicle driven by the engine produce a considerable increase in the settled apparent density of the soot deposited in the collecting container. With the same collecting container volume, about 10 times as much soot can be held, when compared with conventional soot reservoirs.
Abstract: A method for forming a threaded dispensing opening for a cylindrical drum container having a generally flat circular closed bottom, a generally flat circular closed top, and a cylindrical side wall comprising the steps of forming an aperture in the drum top and drawing the drum metal adjacent the aperture upwardly to define an upwardly extending annular shoulder. The shoulder is then compressed downwardly to thicken the shoulder and a female threaded portion is formed on the inside of the annular shoulder which is receptive of a threaded closure member.
Abstract: An espresso machine wherein a steam supplying first conduit is separably coupled to a second conduit having an air admitting inlet and an air discharging outlet. When the first conduit admits steam into the second conduit between the inlet and the outlet, such steam draws atmospheric air by way of the inlet and the resulting steam-air mixture is discharged by way of the outlet to frothe milk in a vessel into which the outlet of the second conduit extends. The rate of admission of air into the inlet of the second conduit is regulated by a valving element which is mounted on the second conduit and can be rotated by a handle so as to move a hole of the valving element relative to the inlet and to thus alter the cross-sectional area of the path for the flow of air into the second conduit. If the inlet of the second conduit is completely sealed from the atmosphere, the outlet discharges only steam which can be used to heat cups prior to pouring of espresso coffee.
Abstract: Hydraulic drilling apparatus and method suitable for use in a variety of applications including the drilling of deep holes for oil and gas wells and the drilling of vertical, horizontal or slanted holes, drilling through both consolidated and unconsolidated formations, and cutting and removing core samples. The drill head produces a whirling mass of pressurized cutting fluid, and this whirling fluid is applied to a discharge nozzle to produce a high velocity cutting jet. In one embodiment, the fluid is discharged from a central nozzle as a thin wall conical cutting jet, and a plurality of axially directed jets are spaced about the central nozzle for removing material within the circular groove cut by the conical jet. The conical jet can be used without the axially directed jets to cut core samples. In a second embodiment, the discharge nozzle comprises an oblique bore in a rotor which is driven at a relatively slow speed (e.g. 5-50 rpm) by the whirling fluid in the drill head.

Abstract: To permit rapid checking of possible malfunctions or erroneous computations in data processing cycles, in which a plurality of computer units carry out processing of data, especially to supervise and control safety apparatus, each one of the units generate intermediate information data at predetermined time intervals, which intermediate information data are transmitted to each one of the other units. The so-received intermediate information data are buffer-stored and compared in all the units with locally generated check data. If the comparison indicates coincidence, computation is continued through subsequent processing cycles; if an error is detected, at least that computer unit which processes the data erroneously is reset to repeat at least the preceding computation cycle, and the unit which detected the error is placed into a "set-and-hold" mode.

Abstract: A damping device having a regulatable shock absorber functioning both passively and actively is proposed. The adjustment of the shock absorber is effected by the actuation of a control device, the deflection of which is varied by the control pressure in a control line. Depending upon the deflection of the control device, the shock absorber functions as a passive or an active damper. In passive damping, the size of the throttle cross sections between work chambers of the shock absorber is controlled. In active damping, damping fluid is delivered to or removed from one of the work chambers via the control line. The pump capacity necessary for bringing the control pressure to bear is designed to be so low that compensation for the internal friction in the damping device or in a vehicle suspension is assured. The components necessary for adjusting the control pressure can therefore be kept quite small in size, and in particular a low-capacity compression pump can be used.
Abstract: To counteract the tendency of over-steering when a vehicle operates in a curved path, and one of the wheels--typically the wheel at the inner side of the curve exhibits a tendency to block and, then, braking pressure is reduced to one of the front wheels only, the braking pressure applied to the rear wheel or wheels is reduced. If braking pessure is reduced to both of the front wheels, braking pressure being applied to the rear wheels is controlled, independently, in accordance with anti-brake lock control considerations, which have priority over dropping of braking pressure to prevent over-steering.
Abstract: High-frequency portions of the video signals are substantially damped at low signal levels by including, selectively, a low-pass filter (12) in circuit with a signal path, selectively, in accordance with the setting of a transfer switch (13), the setting of which is controlled as a function of the signal level with respect to a threshold (U.sub.St), which may vary, for example in accordance with amplification of a signal being received from a television camera tube system (1,2,3).
