  • Patent number: 4728888
Abstract: A magnetometer with a time coding is proposed, which serves to measure magnetic fields in the motor vehicle and in particular to measure the direction of the earth field and to determine the driving direction. The magnetometer includes at least one sensor having a horizontally disposed, magnetizable rod-shaped core and a winding disposed on the core. The winding carries an alternating current for generating an auxiliary alternating field, in order to magnetize the core in alternation up to and into saturation. In order to measure the magnetic field detected by the sensor and to generate the auxiliary alternating current, a controlled alternating current source (18) is connected on the one hand to one and the same winding (19), and on the other hand a measurement voltage that can be picked up at this winding (19) is connected to an evaluation circuit (21, 25, 12, 13).

  • Patent number: 4728269
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines has a pump piston which via a pressure plate rests with a piston bottom on an axially driven tappet with slight play. This contact is brought about by a pressure spring, which is supported on a spring plate so as to grip the piston bottom from behind. To prevent the pressure plate from falling out if the pump piston should become stuck, the spring plate is cup-shaped and includes a cylindrical cup portion having two projecting protrusions. The pressure plate has a radial flange adapted to rest on the projecting protrusions. Those protrusions and the radial flange are adapted to one another such that the pressure plate can be introduced in a predetermined position through the protrusions. The piston bottom located between the pressure plate and the plate bottom of the spring plate prevents the pressure plate from being able to assume a position, after assembly, in which it could slip and escape back outwardly through those protrusions.

  • Patent number: 4727851
Abstract: To reduce spurious sparks, and then misfire of an ICE having a magneto with an E armature, upon approach of a magnet (23) in a pole wheel (13) to the leading leg (26) of the E core at high speed ranges of the ICE, the magnetic reluctance of the magnetic path which includes the leading legs (26, 26a) of the E core (14, 14a) is increased with respect to that of the magnetic path which includes the trailing core (25), so that the inductivity of the magnetic circuit including the leading leg is decreased. This can be achieved by providing a wider air gap (X) at the leading leg (26) than at the center leg (15) and the trailing leg (25) of the E core; or reducing the cross-sectional area, or effective magnetic cross-sectional area, e.g. by reducing the number of laminations of the core, at the leading leg or reducing the size of the pole shoe surface (27) facing an air gap which is the same for all legs. A uniform air gap facilitates assembly of the E core.

  • Patent number: 4728315
Abstract: A two-speed drive for a generator of an internal combustion engine includes two belt pulleys and centrifugal type friction-clutch coupling. The coupling has an actuating lever formed as a flyweight and pivotally supported against the force of a spring on a pin connected either to the belt pulley of a smaller diameter or to the generator or to the generator fan. The coupling can be mounted either to the driven side of the generator or to its driving side. A coupling jaw pivotally supported on the actuating lever cooperates with a friction surface provided on the housing of the coupling. An angle formed between the direction of action of the resulting normal force acting on the coupling jaw and the line between the pivot point of the lever and the pivot point of the coupling jaw corresponds to a friction angle at static friction.

  • Patent number: 4727839
Abstract: A pneumatic diaphragm control element for a fuel injection apparatus for internal combustion engines, in particular for supercharged diesel engines, has a thrust rod that is axially displaceable between two end stop counter to the force of a restoring spring, which thrust rod acts upon a control member of the fuel injection apparatus and is connected to a pressure-actuated diaphragm. One end stop determines the position assumed by the thrust rod when there is no pressure and is embodied as a stop screw for the thrust rod. The second end stop defines the position assumed by the thrust rod with maximal pressure being exerted on the diaphragm, and to this end cooperates with a counterpart stop that is adjustably coupled with the thrust rod.

  • Patent number: 4727323
Abstract: A differential field plate or magnetically responsive resistors (4a, 4b) is so connected that two field plate resistors are serially connected and the common junction (J) thereof is connected to ground or, chassis; the output is taken across the free terminals of the resistance elements (4a, 4b), the resistance elements having a constant current applied thereto. The current is maintained constant for any particular temperature by a closed connecting loop including a comparator (22) comparing the voltage across any one of the field plate resistors (U.sub.A *) with a predetermined voltage (U.sub.o). Noise or disturbance voltages (U.sub.St1, U.sub.St2) are balanced out by the circuit and thus will not affect the output voltage derived across the free terminals of the field plate resistors (4a, 4b).

  • Patent number: 4726335
Abstract: A method of safeguarding operation of an internal combustion engine is based on the provision of two electrically controlled fuel supply pumps delivering fuel from a tank to a fuel metering device. During the start of the engine both fuel supplying pumps are activated. During a normal engine operation when rotary speed exceeds an iling value, a random fuel supplying pump is turned off. In a defect situation resulting from malfunction of the active pump both pumps are turned on to maintain fuel supply by the other pump. In an emergency situation when for example actual rotary speed exceeds a maximum value, both fuel supplying pumps are activated in reverse to suck fuel from the metering device and cause the standstill of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4725957
Abstract: A process for correcting inclination dependent angle errors when establishing the driving direction of vehicles with an electronic compass for navigation is suggested. The compass comprises a magnetometer (10) with an evaluation circuit (11) for computing the driving direction. For compensating inclination dependent angle errors on the indicator of the drive direction the inclination angle of the earth field is fed into the evaluation circuit (11) as a calibration dimension (E), subsequently the inclination angle (.psi.) of the vehicle is established cyclically by means of an inclination measuring device (12) and then the corrected driving direction (.theta.) is established from the computed driving direction (.theta.') as well as from the calibration dimension (E) and the angle of inclination (.psi.) in accordance with the equation .theta.=f (.theta.',.psi.,E). This corrected driving direction can then be further processed or issued to an indicator (13) (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 4724657
Abstract: An apparatus for producing liquid-filled bag packages including a tube former for shaping a tube from a strip of packaging material. To introduce amounts of liquid into the end of the tube, a filling tube extends into the tube former with its outlet end having a metering valve. • Patent number: 4725002
Abstract: A metering valve includes a piezoelectric cylinder connected via a spring biased needle to a valving element for closing a metering opening. To compensate for slow changes in the length of the piezoelectric control member, there is provided a damping piston connected axially to the piezoelectric member and being movable in a well formed in the valve housing and defining with the end face of the piston a damping chamber. A tubular membrane surrounds a portion of the damping piston and is attached to the piezoelectric member and to an inner wall of the housing around the opening of the well to define with the piston an annular equalizing space. The damping and equalizing spaces are filled with liquid and communicate with one another via a narrow throttling gap formed between facing walls of the well and of the piston.
