  • Patent number: 4555060
Abstract: An electromagnetically actuatable valve which serves in particular to inject fuel into the intake tube of internal combustion engines operating with fuel injection systems. The fuel injection valve includes a valve housing, a shell core having a magnetic winding and a flat armature, which is firmly connected with a valve element which passes through a central guide opening in a guide diaphragm and cooperates with a fixed valve seat. The guide diaphragm has a fastening zone and together with the central guide opening cut out of a centering zone of the guide diaphragm guides the valve element in the radial direction toward the valve seat. The fastening zone is connected via struts with an annular guide zone on which the flat armature, under spring tension, rests with a concentric guide edge and is guided in a plane parallel to the end face of the shell core. The centering zone of the guide diaphragm is connected in turn via struts with the guide zone.

  • Patent number: 4554528
Abstract: The respective wheels of a vehicle have transducers (11, 12) associated therewith which provide pulse trains (S1, S2) upon revolution of the wheels, the pulses being either "mark" pulses if the transducer senses "correct pressure", or "space" pulses if the transducer senses "low pressure". The pulses from all the transducers are logically combined in a NOR-gate (23), and the output is connected via a common junction (J) to the count or shift inputs of a group of shift registers (22). The shift registers are individually reset by the pulses from the individual transducers. Thus, if one of the transducers signals "low pressure" conditions, the particular shift register (22) will not be reset, and, upon shifting through to its terminal count, will provide respective output signals to individually connected indicators (27).

  • Patent number: 4552779
Abstract: A process for preparing a cast metal surface such that it is usable for bonding to a tooth structure. A water soluble adhesive medium is placed on a stone cast of a tooth or teeth. A mixture of soluble and non-soluble particles are then placed onto the adhesive. The soluble particles partially dissolve into the adhesive medium while the non-soluble particles adhere to the adhesive. Wax or resin is flowed over the resultant surface to imbed the particles therein. The desired tooth form is then completed after which the adhesive is dissolved away to release the pattern from the cast. The remaining soluble particles are then washed away leaving voids in the surface of the pattern. These voids are then duplicated using standard lost wax casting procedures to reproduce the surface in metal. The surface, which has a multiplicity of voids, roughnesses, and undercuts, is then filled with a bonding medium to attach the rigid cast metal appliance to a tooth surface.

  • Patent number: 4552437
Abstract: To prevent parallax distortion, and to simplify application of masking patterns, particularly for LCD units, the mask is applied to the front-, or back-plate electrode at the side facing the liquid crystal, and opposite the interrupted, or etched front-plate electrode on the back support plate. Suitable methods are printing, particularly with a coarse or rough grain lacquer varnish or ink, the projections of the coarse grain forming the microspacers between said plates and for retaining the liquid crystal medium; other methods are galvanic deposition on the continuous electrode, and selected exposure of photographic emulsions, particularly color emulsions so that, with multi-color emulsions, multi-color effects can be obtained although only a single thickness of emulsion layer is applied.

  • Patent number: 4551604
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for forming a circular, honeycomb-type engine seal from pre-formed core strip having male and female nodes. The apparatus includes a source of strip and means for forming the strip into a circular seal configuration wherein the male and female nodes of the strip are automatically juxtaposed to each other for weldment as relative movement between the forming means and the source occurs to withdraw additional strip from the core strip source. As the relative movement continues, the juxtaposed male and female nodes are exposed to welding head means of the apparatus which welds the male and female nodes to one another. The forming means includes means for causing said relative movement constituted by drive means which is adjustable to permit forming means of different sizes to be utilized. The movement of the forming means permits successive layers or laminae of the strip to be welded to each other in circular form until a seal of the desired dimension is achieved.

  • Patent number: 4550500
Abstract: In a compass saw formed as a hand-held machine tool a flat saw blade is connected with a flat reciprocating rod by a connecting device which comprises a cup-shaped clamping sleeve screwed on a rotary member formed with a through hole extended in the direction of elongation of the reciprocating rod the end of which is inserted into that hole. The shaft of the saw blade passes through a bore formed in the clamping sleeve and partially extends into the hole in the rotary member. Two opposing pins formed on the shaft of the saw blade limit the extension of the saw blade shaft into the hole of the rotary member. The end of the shaft is pressed against a recess formed in the reciprocating member, on the one hand, and the pins of the shaft are engaged in depressions formed in the rotary member, on the other hand, whereby clamping of the shaft of the saw blade with the end of the reciprocating rod in the clamping sleeve is ensured.

  • Patent number: 4550704
Abstract: Disclosed is a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine in which a group of cylinders is disconnectable in dependence on one or more operational parameters of the engine. The connection or disconnection of the groups of cylinders occurs in response to an engine load variation, to an acceleration signal or to a deceleration signal and to the engine temperature. The switchover takes place within a predetermined time interval. During the switchover of the cylinder groups, the ignition angle and if desired the volumetric efficiency are controlled. When only a part of the cylinders of the engine is in operation after a predetermined number of engine rotations the active cylinders are disconnected and simultaneously the inactive cylinders are connected into operation. During the switchover process any unintentional switchover is prevented by a signal blocking device.

  • Patent number: 4549515
Abstract: A fuel injection system for internal combustion engines which has a metering valve disposed in a fuel supply line, in which adjusting characteristics for controlling the metering valve are strictly linear, thereby enabling a predictable, flexible fuel metering using simple and inexpensive control circuits. To this end, metering slits in the metering valve, which cooperate with a control piston in a known manner, are each connected to a respective differential pressure valve, which is adjusted such that the pressure differential (p.sub.1,2) before and after the metering slits is constant, regardless of the size of the uncovered cross section of the metering slits. Thus the cross section of the metering slits uncovered at a given time is linearly dependent solely on the displacement travel (h) of the control piston, which in turn is proportional to a control pressure (p.sub.

  • Patent number: 4549430
Abstract: A conductor (5) which varies its resistance value under the influence of pressure is introduced into the combustion chamber of the engine. In one embodiment the conductor is a wire (5), a coil, a meander pattern or the like; preferably, one part (5a) of the wire arrangement is shielded from the pressure. The shielded (5a) and the unshielded (5b) parts of the wire arrangement then form the branches of a bridge circuit. The sensor is preferably disposed in the breathing room (11) of a spark plug or for a Diesel engine, combined with an electric conductor (21, 44) serving to provide pre-glowing in a glow plug. Combustion pressures are thus sensed for controlling and/or regulating injection systems and/or ignition systems without requiring additional bores.

  • Patent number: 4549511
Abstract: A fuel injection system is proposed, having a valve each for the pre-injection quantity and for the main injection quantity, each of the valves having plural injection ports. The injection ports for the pre-injection quantity are smaller than those for the main injection quantity. Furthermore, the injection streams of the pre-injection quantity form a cone angle which is smaller than the cone angle of the main injection streams. By means of the two injection pumps it becomes possible to regulate exactly and indepedently the amount of injection as well as the injection time of the pre-injection quantity and of the main injection quantity.

  • Patent number: 4548184
Abstract: An apparatus for the load-dependent actuation of an adjusting device of an internal combustion engine, in particular of a throttle valve, of an exhaust gas recirculation line leading to the intake tube of the engine, in which the adjusting device is controlled in accordance with the position of a governor sleeve of a governor of an injection pump filled with fuel. The fuel in the injection pump, which is at an interior pressure (p.sub.1), is utilized as a hydraulic operating medium, and the position of the governor sleeve is ascertained via a self-balancing hydraulic follower piston apparatus. In order to preclude influence on the part of the interior pressure (p.sub.1), which is dependent on the pump rpm, the follower piston apparatus is disposed such that in the balanced status it is exposed on both ends to a pressure corresponding to the interior pressure (p.sub.1).
