  • Patent number: 8018077
Abstract: There are many inventions described and illustrated herein. In one aspect, the present invention is directed to a technique of fabricating or manufacturing MEMS having mechanical structures that operate in controlled or predetermined mechanical damping environments. In this regard, the present invention encapsulates the mechanical structures within a chamber, prior to final packaging and/or completion of the MEMS. The environment within the chamber containing and/or housing the mechanical structures provides the predetermined, desired and/or selected mechanical damping. The parameters of the encapsulated fluid (for example, the gas pressure) in which the mechanical structures are to operate are controlled, selected and/or designed to provide a desired and/or predetermined operating environment.

  • Patent number: 8019594
Abstract: Embodiments of a progressive feature selection method that selects features in multiple rounds are described. In one embodiment, the progressive feature selection method splits the feature space into tractable sub-spaces such that a feature selection algorithm can be performed on each sub-space. In a merge-split operation, the subset of features that the feature selection algorithm selects from the different sub-spaces are merged into subsequent sets of features. Instead of re-generating the mapping table for each subsequent set from scratch, a new mapping table from the previous round's tables is created by collecting those entries that correspond to the selected features. The feature selection method is then performed again on each of the subsequent feature sets and new features are selected from each of these feature sets. This feature selection-merge-split process is repeated on successively smaller numbers of feature sets until a single final set of features is selected.

  • Patent number: 8015855
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an exhaust gas sensor allows the manufacturer to selectively control the air-voltage range of the manufactured sensor between a first air-voltage range and a second air-voltage range. The sensor includes a signal wire and a ground wire. The method includes using a high nickel alloy for both of the signal wire and the ground wire to manufacture a sensor in the first air-voltage range, and using a high nickel alloy for only one of the signal wire and the ground wire to manufacture a sensor in the second air-voltage range. The air-voltage ranges are those associated with a lean-application normalized air/fuel ratio of ?>1.

  • Patent number: 8015778
Abstract: In a method for filling bulk goods into containers designed to accommodate a certain number of bulk items, at least one bulk goods conveyor is used to transport the bulk goods towards at least two pickers which are consecutively arranged in the direction of transport. The pickers are used to fill the bulk goods into empty spaces in containers, transported on at least one container conveyor. When the supply of bulk goods decreases or is discontinued, the at least one picker arranged downstream in the direction of transport of the bulk goods conveyor gives preference to containers with a high filling level. Completely empty containers are preferably no longer filled. Thus the bulk goods conveyor can be emptied within a short period and almost all bulk goods are packed without necessitating manual filling of the containers.

  • Patent number: 8019593
Abstract: Embodiments of a feature generation system and process for use in machine learning applications utilizing statistical modeling systems are described. In one embodiment, the feature generation process generates large feature spaces by combining features using logical, arithmetic and/or functional operations. A first set of features in an initial feature space are defined. Some or all of the first set of features are processed using one or more arithmetic, logic, user-defined combinatorial processes, or combinations thereof, to produce additional features. The additional features and at least some of the first set of features are combined to produce an expanded feature space. The expanded feature space is processed through a feature selection and optimization process to produce a model in a statistical modeling system.
