Abstract: A hand-held device (10, 10?) for contactless distance measurement measures a distance (d) between a target object (18) and at least one reference point (20) of the device (10) using an emitted modulated measurement signal (16). The device includes a housing (12, 13, 56) with a first end (34) that faces the object (18) to be measured, and a second end (35) facing away from the object (18) to be measured. The housing includes an output unit (22, 28, 29, 31) for depicting measured results. Several measured distance values are to be assigned to at least one subsection of the path between the object (18) to be measured and the opposite end (35) of the housing (12, 13, 56) via a length-measurement scale (36, 38, 54) that is displayable in the output unit (22, 28, 29, 31).

  • Patent number: 7949454
Abstract: In a method for stabilizing a vehicle in extreme driving situations, in particular when understeering while cornering, multiple wheels are decelerated in order to reduce the driving speed. A maximum cornering force of the wheels and thus a minimal curve radius may be achieved if in particular the rear wheels are decelerated and a higher braking torque is applied on the rear wheels than on the front wheels and in the process in particular the outside front wheel remains highly underdecelerated.

  • Publication number: 20110115615
Abstract: A rear-view camera system for a vehicle. The rear-view camera system includes a first camera positioned on a rear side of the vehicle. The first camera produces a first data set that includes image data corresponding to a first field of view. A second camera is positioned on the rear side of the vehicle spaced a horizontal distance from the first camera. The second camera produces a second data set that includes image data corresponding to a second field of view. The first field of view and the second field of view cover a space adjacent the rear side of the vehicle. An electronic control unit receives the first data set and the second data set and processes the first data set and the second data set to determine the presence of an object in the space adjacent the rear side of the vehicle. The electronic control unit is configured to stitch the first data set and the second data set to produce a panoramic image that corresponds to the space adjacent the rear side of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7942039
Abstract: In a method for detecting combustion misses in cylinders of a combustion engine in part-engine operation in which only some of the cylinders are operated by the injection of fuel, a positional angle of the crankshaft is assigned to an angle segment; each angle segment is assigned to the particular cylinder which predominantly provides the torque for moving the crankshaft through the angle segment; an irregular running datum is determined as a function of a difference of segment pass-through times of immediately successive angle segments; and a combustion miss is detected if the irregular running datum exceeds or undershoots a limit value. In part-engine operation, the irregular running datum is determined only for two successive angle segments that are assigned to a combusting cylinder and to a non-combusting cylinder.
