  • Publication number: 20200221285
Abstract: To assist roaming of a mobile terminal from a first wireless LAN to a second wireless LAN respectively managed by first and second access points, the first access point (AP) makes measurements of communication quality with the mobile terminal and/or of operational load. By comparing the measurements with thresholds, the first AP can trigger a selection procedure assisted by a server or trigger an autonomous selection procedure, at the end of which the first AP transmits to the mobile terminal a weighted list of access points that are candidates for the roaming. In the assisted selection procedure, the first AP, in constructing the weighted list, takes into account instantaneous measurements of operational load on the candidate access points supplied by the server, and, in the autonomous selection procedure, the first AP, in constructing the weighted list, takes into account long-term statistics of operational load on the candidate access points.

  • Publication number: 20200213674
Abstract: Television programmes have changed over the past years. It happens in fact that these programmes are enhanced by additional contents that a user can access by means of his television set. However, in order to go further in the enhancement, it may be wished to enhance a television programme with contents that can be played, executed or broadcast on devices other than the television set displaying the television programme. In this case there is a risk that the broadcasting of the additional content on another device may compete with the broadcasting of the television programme on the television set that it is supposed to enhance. The invention makes it possible for the additional content and the television programme not to be in competition. Thus, when the additional content (313) is broadcast, the television programme is paused (309) and resumes (317) only when use of the additional content has ended.

  • Publication number: 20200204518
Abstract: A system for extending wireless communication coverage includes a subnetwork comprising a set of interconnected nodes implementing a functionality of access point of one and the same wireless communication network. The system monitors messages exchanged during an address-resolution phase, and obtains therefrom an association between network address and MAC address of each device connected to the LAN and node of the subnetwork, and interface information representing an interface via which the message that made it possible to obtain said association was received. In order to identify a node closest to the target device, the system parses the address resolution tables while seeking the above-identified association corresponding to the target device and obtaining therefrom the associated interface information; and identifies the node closest to the target device as the node the address resolution table of which does not reference any node in the subnetwork in association with said interface information.

  • Publication number: 20200107231
Abstract: A method for determining eligibility for a handover of a client node of a distributed communication network that includes a plurality of gathering nodes. The client node is associated with one level among a plurality of levels. The method includes determining a connection quality indicator and determining a connection quality threshold dependent on the level. If the connection quality indicator compared with the threshold indicates a poor relative quality of the connection then incrementing the level or executing a handover method, otherwise if, and as long as, the connection quality indicator compared with a threshold determined according to the level immediately below the level associated with the client node indicates a better connection quality, then decrementing the level.

  • Patent number: 10594503
Abstract: The invention relates to managing requests for subscription to multicast transmissions in a communication network, at least two branches thereof being interconnected by an interconnection device comprising a module consuming such subscription requests preventing the propagation of said requests from one branch to another. At least one of said branches comprising at least one bridge device, the interconnection device comprising a subscription announcement module, said subscription announcement module performs the following step: upon reception (404; 412) via a branch of a first request for subscription to a multicast transmission, transmitting (407; 415) a second request for subscription to said multicast transmission at least via the branch via which said first subscription request was received.

  • Publication number: 20200057422
Abstract: Some appliances, normally supplied by a mains supply, comprise an emergency supply by batteries able to take over from the mains supply. The batteries used by the emergency supply are generally protected by a fuse. These appliances may consume energy greater than what could be supplied by the batteries of the emergency supply. When there is a break in the mains electrical supply, it's preferable to limit the current consumed by the appliance to not damage the fuse protecting said batteries. However, the fuses are hardware modules having a reaction time of a few hundreds of milliseconds. If one does not want to damage the fuse, one could reduce the current consumption of the appliance within a time less than the reaction time of the fuse. A system and method herein instantaneously reduces the electrical consumption of an appliance in the event of a break in the mains supply.

  • Publication number: 20200052915
Abstract: An equipment can function according to a plurality of operating modes that include a deep standby mode in which the energy consumption is minimum, an active mode in which the energy consumption is maximum and a light standby mode in which the energy consumption is intermediate between deep standby and active mode, a change from the deep standby mode to the active mode being slower than a change from the light standby mode to the active mode. The method enables an electricity meter supervising an electricity network to which an item of equipment is connected to control the change of said equipment to light standby mode. To do this, the meter implements a procedure for the detection of human presence based on an analysis of the electrical consumption in the electricity network and activates the light standby mode of the equipment when a user is detected.

  • Patent number: 10530508
Abstract: A method for scanning a frequency band for producing a service plan. The method parallelises the scanning by dividing the analysis into two steps: an exploration step for the purpose of detecting channels or frequencies carrying services; and an analysis step for extracting detected channels from program information in order to supply a service plan. Each of the steps is performed by multiple task instances. These tasks share the band to be explored and synchronise, for one same step, via semaphores and, for an inter-step communication, according to a producer/consumer principle.

  • Patent number: 10499329
Abstract: A device has a first radio interface for implementing a first wireless communication network and a second radio interface for implementing a second wireless communication network, said networks having separate identifiers. When no client is connected to the second wireless communication network, the device: deactivates (303) the second radio interface; implements (304) a third wireless communication network via said first radio interface, the third wireless communication network having the same identifier as the second wireless communication network. Once a client device connects to the third wireless communication network, the device reactivates the second radio interface, re-implements (306) the second wireless communication network; and cuts off (307) the third wireless communication network and switches said client device to the second wireless communication network.
