  • Patent number: 6021465
Abstract: An arrangement has peripheral systems such as disc memory controllers or other device controllers used in the field of data technology. This allows a flexible design in such a manner that it is possible to match the controller designed using the arrangement to desired values in a simple manner in terms of performance, that is the throughput and the response time, failure reliability, the capability for expanding from very small to very large systems and the capability for connection to a large number of host systems (HS). The design is based on a specific combination of serial device buses to form ring circuits (RS) and high-performance buses (SPBP; SPBS), for example parallel buses, for linking relevant data transmission controllers (DS).

  • Patent number: 6021178
Abstract: A system and a method are provided for detecting a type of a received signal. The system includes a processor (32) and two receivers (24, 26). Both receivers (24, 26) are coupled to the processor (32). The first receiver (26) is capable of receiving a first signal type, and the second receiver (24) is capable of receiving a second signal type. An algorithm (30), coupled to the second receiver (24), is used for distinguishing between the first signal type and the second signal type. The algorithm (30) is used after the first receiver (26) begins storing the signal as a first signal type, and after the second receiver (24) begins storing the signal as a second signal type. At least one of the two signal types is retained.

  • Patent number: 6020734
Abstract: An electrical utility meter includes a controller that determines a list of highest demands using event-triggered windows of time to ensure that only one of the entries on the list corresponds to any one high consumption event. The controller generates a demand value corresponding to the quantity of energy consumed within a demand interval, and then determines whether the demand value for the demand interval is greater than a smallest demand value on a list of highest demands in a memory location. If so, the controller opens a demand window, the demand window having a duration exceeding the demand interval. The controller then obtains a plurality of additional demand values for the duration of the demand window, each of the additional demand values corresponding to one of a plurality of additional demand intervals within the demand window. The controller records in the list of highest demands in the memory location a select one of the demand value and plurality of additional demand values.

  • Patent number: 6018451
Abstract: A logging device for a trip unit records temporal information related to a circuit breaker trip event, with the circuit breaker (11) including a trip unit (12). The device (10) includes at least a clock circuit (13), a microcontroller (14), and a storage medium (15). The device (10) can be configured as either a plug-in module for the trip unit (12), or as an accessory is mounted on the panel proximate to and in communication with the trip unit (12). The clock circuit (13) generates signals representing temporal information, such as real-time date and time information. The microcontroller (14) is adapted to be coupled to the trip unit (12) to receive signals from the trip unit (12). These signals from the trip unit (12) indicate a circuit breaker trip event. The microcontroller (14) receives the time and date information from the clock circuit (13) and associates a given trip event with the time and date information related to that given trip event.

  • Patent number: 6016778
Abstract: The invention pertains to a magnet valve. The magnet valve has a ferromagnetic coil body with a winding and defines first and second terminal positions. An armature for driving a valve is displaceably disposed in the ferromagnetic coil body between the first terminal position and the second terminal position. The magnet valve also has a housing with a support and a spring is braced between the armature and the support. The magnet valve further has a piezoelectric measuring instrument disposed between the spring and the support for detecting a position of the armature. The measuring instrument provides an output signal which is dependent on a spring force of the spring. In turn, the spring force is associated with a position of the armature. The actual speed of the armature is determined from the position of the armature and the actual speed of the armature is used to regulate a future speed of the armature.

  • Patent number: 6016691
Abstract: A module for an on-board evaporative emission leak detection system that detects leakage from an evaporative emission space of an automotive vehicle fuel system, and corresponding method that calibrates a leak detection module pump to set a desired stroke of a moveable wall in the pump of such evaporative emission leak detection system. A pump disposed within interior space of the module has an inlet in communication with the interior space and an outlet that communicates through a flow passage with the evaporative emission space. A vent valve within the interior space is selectively operable to a first state that vents the flow passage to the interior space of the module, thereby venting the evaporative emission space to atmosphere, and to a second state that does not vent the flow passage to the interior space. An electromechanical actuator within the interior space operates the pump and the vent valve by respective magnetically responsive levers.

  • Patent number: 6018669
Abstract: The card reading device is for use in mobile radio devices. From a battery compartment, the card is longitudinally inserted into a receiving apparatus through a receiving slot and is ejected through the receiving slot, following use, by a slide which is accessible from outside through an opening in the housing and which has a catch for the card. For reasons of space efficiency the slide is located beneath the receiving apparatus, the catch being arranged at the end of the slide, which is situated behind the card, viewed in the direction of card ejection. The front edge of the slide, viewed in the direction of card ejection, serves as a snapping lock for the battery and projects into the battery compartment through a second slot. In a first inserted position of the slide the front edge projects a prescribed length into the battery compartment. The slide can be slid counter to a spring restoring force into a second position, in which the front edge is located inside the second slot.
