  • Patent number: 6009142
Abstract: A method and apparatus of operating a CT imaging apparatus having a cone beam radiation source and a 2D detector arrangement, for exactly reconstructing an image of a 3D region of interest (ROI) in an object. Measurement data acquired by the 2D detector is processed to develop sub-sets of Radon data. Each of the sub-sets of Radon data is targeted for reconstructing a corresponding local 2D ROI in a 2D parallel projection of the object. Accordingly, after a sub-set of Radon data is completely developed, it is subjected to a first inversion processing step for developing the corresponding local 2D ROI. Multiple ones of the local ROIs are then grouped together and subjected to a second inversion processing step to develop an image reconstruction of a part of the 3D ROI in the object.

  • Patent number: 6006170
Abstract: A computer-based system and method for ascertaining anomalies in an electric motor, includes computing and processing a set of Fast Fourier Transforms (FFT's) of the supply current waveforms for a motor known to be in a normal condition to create a feature set of input vectors. The input vector assignments for all possible cluster groupings 1 through n are derived using Ward's method. The method includes computing the Approximate Weight of Evidence (AWE) for each cluster grouping then selecting that count associated with a maximum AWE and designating this count as s. For each cluster in each grouping 1 through s, the method finds the member vector farthest from the cluster's centroid and defines this as the cluster's radius.

  • Patent number: 6003297
Abstract: A gas turbine and a method for combustion of a fuel in a gas turbine, conduct a flow of compressed air through the gas turbine from a compressor section to a turbine section. The fuel is fed to the flow in the compressor section and is burnt in the flow between the compressor section and the turbine section. The flow is subjected to a spin with a speed component at right angles to a movement direction of the flow when the flow emerges from the compressor section. The combustion of the fuel increases the speed component in the movement direction of the flow, causing the speed of the flow entering the turbine section to correspond to a value predetermined by the geometry of the turbine section.

  • Patent number: 6005393
Abstract: A method of determining the ground-fault current flowing in a multi-phase circuit is based on the use of standard current transformers having iron cores for the phase conductors and the neutral conductor. Allowance is made for the current-dependant linearity error of the current transformers by subtracting the product of the highest phase-current and associated error from the vectorial sum of the currents. This results in a single-sided position of the tolerance band of the measured ground-fault current and prevents spurious tripping.

  • Patent number: 6005847
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for facilitating multiple data communications with a first platform (100, 102, and 104) using a single communication conduit (108) having first and second channels. First data are transmitted between the first platform and a second platform (114) via the first and second channels (202). It is determined whether an incoming call comprises second data of a particular type (206). Where the incoming call comprises the second data of the particular type (208), transmission of the first data via the second channel is inhibited (226) thereby enabling reception of the second data by the first platform via the second channel while the first data continue to be transmitted via the first channel. The second data are then received at the first platform via the second channel (230). Transmission of the first data via the first and second channels is resumed in response to termination of transmission of the second data (266).

  • Patent number: 6006151
Abstract: The controller is used, in particular, for controlling an automatic transmission in a motor vehicle. An actuation signal is defined and used to determine the gear speed which is to be selected or the transmission ratio which is to be set. The actuation signal is a function of the position of the accelerator pedal, of the vehicle speed or, possibly, of further measured of variables. The controller includes a classification system which receives the measured variables and parameters derived therefrom as input variables and which generates output variables with reference to an evaluation of the measured variables and parameters. The output variables take into account certain assignments of the driving behavior of the driver, the respective driving state or the respective load state of the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6005875
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the multiple access use of bit-transparent ISDN links by any subscribers and a device for carrying out the method. Normally in ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network), a dial connection is established individually between subscribers, said connection carrying 64 kbps even over longdistances. That bit rate would be sufficient for the simultaneous transmission of several digitally coded voice signals. In local areas (LSA), devices such as ISDN private branch exchanges are connected to ISDN local exchanges for the purpose of carrying out the method. These devices form what is called an ISDN Link Sharing System (ILSS), reflecting their function. The ILSS elements are connected via bit-transparent dedicated lines which carry the basic traffic. For peak traffic, bit-transparent dial connections are established. All these bit-transparent links are used simultaneously for several links thanks to the use of signal processors to reduce the signal bit rate.

  • Patent number: 6003836
Abstract: A valve for regulating a gas or liquid has a valve housing with an inlet and an outlet. A valve seat is arranged in the valve housing and connects the inlet to the outlet via a valve opening. A valve body facing the valve seat is formed by a band attached at a first fixation point and a second fixation point. The first fixation point is at one end of a lever. An actuator is arranged on the other end of the lever to act on the lever so the distance between the first fixation point and the second fixation point increases. The band is then stretched, and the valve opening is exposed, enabling gas/liquid to flow toward the outlet. When the actuator's action on the lever is regulated, an exact flow of gas/liquid can be regulated.
