  • Patent number: 5996350
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for the superheating of steam is used, in particular, for converting saturated steam into hot steam in the field of nuclear energy generation. As a result of at least partial conversion of pressure energy of the steam into kinetic energy, in particular into kinetic energy of a rotational flow, the steam cools and condensate and residual steam are generated. After the condensate has been separated from the residual steam, the latter is superheated as a result of a reduction of its kinetic energy and is converted into hot steam.

  • Patent number: 5999079
Abstract: To form a magnet coil, the coil bobbin has L-shaped terminal pins embedded in an end portion of the bobbin with the short legs of the terminal pins extending axially and the long legs extending radially therefrom. This enables wrapping the ends of the wire being wound on the bobbin on the short legs and forming a molten connection by soldering or welding of the ends to the end faces of these short legs.

  • Patent number: 5998254
Abstract: The method sequence results in a conductive connection between two zones of a first conductivity type. In particular, one of the zones is a source/drain zone of a transistor. Instead of the conventional additional nitride layer, the connection is produced by implanting directly into the third insulation layer, which is present anyway, and by utilizing the fact that the third insulation layer forms the lateral spacers on the gatestack disposed on the region of the second conductivity type.

  • Patent number: 5997185
Abstract: Laser diodes have a driver current which is dependent on aging and temperature. Emitted optical power is detected and adjusted through the use of a monitor element. However, previous transmit modules are suitable only for semiconductor lasers which emit multi-directionally. The inventive optoelectronic transmit module includes a semiconductor laser which emits unidirectionally and a monitor element. Active areas of both components point toward a coupling device. Optical coupling elements in the form of lenses and reflective elements in the form of reflective surfaces are integrated into the coupling device. The configuration of the coupling device is selected to be such that at least part of emitted radiation is passed to the monitor element, but a remaining portion penetrates the coupling device to the coupling element and is injected into or coupled-in by the latter, for example to an optical waveguide. The transmit module is particularly suitable for Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser Diodes.

  • Patent number: 5999713
Abstract: A chip card includes a semiconductor chip that contains at least one memory. In order to supply energy to the chip and to provide for bi-directional data transmission from and to the chip, both contacts and a device for contactless data transmission are provided. A triggerable switch device which is provided on the chip connects the memory either to the contacts or to the device for contactless data transmission as a function of a state of an output signal of a logic circuit connected to at least a voltage supply contact. The switch device assumes a position of repose when it is not triggered and in that position it connects the memory to the device for contactless data transmission, while only upon application of a voltage to the supply voltage contact, triggered by the logic circuit, does it connect the contacts to the memory.

  • Patent number: 5999396
Abstract: The circuit on which the present invention is based has a control circuit in which a switching element and a measurement resistor are connected in series with the contactor coil. A pickup current control circuit picks up the voltage at measurement resistor and controls the switching element after comparison with a reference voltage. By parallel connection of an additional shunt resistor with measurement resistor, a current approximately twenty to thirty times higher can be achieved during the pickup phase than the holding phase by setting only a single reference voltage. In the holding phase the parallel circuit is disabled so that only the measurement resistor is operative.

  • Patent number: 5999894
Abstract: In a method for the analysis of process data of an industrial plant, in particular a power station plant, parts of the plant are automatically controlled for the purpose of information compression, filtering and diagnosing faults in good time. Features characterizing the plant process are first prescribed and parameters relevant to the plant process are provided. Subsequently, the presence of each feature is checked for each plant part by using the parameters. Correlations between combinations of plant parts or features are determined by using features common to various plant parts and plant parts common to various features. Next, the plant parts and/or the features are represented as information elements positioned in such a way that the distance between two information elements in each case represents the degree of their correlation.

  • Patent number: 5999426
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for producing an output voltage with a first polarity with respect to a reference-earth potential from an operating voltage with a second polarity with respect to the reference potential. The circuit arrangement operates on the basic principle that a first capacitor is charged, by means of a voltage rise on a coil after current has been removed from it, to a voltage which is positive with respect to the fixed reference-earth potential. During the on-phase of a transistor, the first capacitor charges a second capacitor to a voltage which is negative with respect to the fixed reference-earth potential and can be picked off from the outside. An electrical resistor is connected between the circuit output connection and the control line of the transistor.

  • Patent number: 5999599
Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention provides an audio message, such as the identification of a caller, without requiring pre-recording by the call receiver, and providing the audio message in the caller's own voice, if they so desire. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a caller may record her identification prior to making a telephone call. The recorded identification would be sent along with each call the caller makes. The caller's recorded identification would be received by the receiver and announced to the receiver. The caller may also record an image to be sent along with her calls such that the receiver of her call may see her recorded image displayed when her call is being announced. Accordingly, an embodiment of the present invention allows identification of first-time callers and infrequent callers without the need for the call receiver to pre-record the caller's identity.

  • Patent number: 5992217
Abstract: A device and a method for leakage detection and leakage location in an installation, in particular in a pipeline, include a collecting line which is permeable to a substance and is connected to a pump and to a sensor for the substance. A metal wire is disposed outside and along the collecting line and is connected to a negative pole of a direct current source. When a solution, for example salt water, emerges from a leak in a pipeline, a gas, in particular hydrogen, is obtained by electrolysis at the metal wire. A concentration maximum of the gas in the collecting line is then detected and located.

  • Patent number: 5994987
Abstract: An improved trip mechanism for an overload relay includes a housing, a bistable armature mounted in the housing on a pivot for pivotal movement between two stable positions and fixed contacts within the housing. Moveable contacts are located within the housing and springs engage the moveable contacts and urge the same toward the fixed contacts to establish an electrical conducting relationship therebetween. Moveable, contact engaging posts are located on the armature and opposite of the springs for engaging the moveable contacts and moving them away from the fixed contacts against the bias of the springs for one of the two stable positions and for effectively disengaging the moveable contacts to allow the springs to move the moveable contacts into the electrical conducting relation. The relay further includes a latch surface carried by the housing and a spring mounted on the housing and having a latch finger for engaging the latch surface and retaining the armature in one of its two positions.
