  • Patent number: 4555188
Abstract: A bearing and seal assembly in which the seal has an outer casing formed with claws which are engaged in an annular groove in the outer periphery of the outer bearing ring, and a resilient annular lip or washer compressed between the outer casing and the adjacent side wall of the bearing ring and urging the outer casing away from the bearing ring, so as to engage the claws as a tight fit against a side wall of the annular groove. In one embodiment, the outer casing of the seal is made of resilient material and the annular lip is formed integral with the casing. In another embodiment, a non-planar washer of resilient material is compressed between a step on the outer casing and the adjacent side wall of the outer bearing ring.

  • Patent number: 4550479
Abstract: In a process for the production of a heat treated bearing ring with at least one longitudinal slit extending axially therethrough formed by means of two abutting ends lying opposite one another in the circumferential direction, one or more flat band sections of heat treatable strip material are stamped with at least a holding tongue formed on one or both respective abutting ends and a holding recess on the opposite abutting end fitting the respective holding tongue with a force fit. The band section is bent to form a bearing ring, with each holding tongue of the one abutting end radially engaging the respective holding recess of the other abutting end on the respective longitudinal slit. • Patent number: 4549872
Abstract: A homokinetic coupling which has a housing or outer ring with a cavity limited by a spherical surface and open toward the outside at least one edge. An inner ring, having an outer spherical surface with axially extending grooves is placed within this cavity. A set of balls flattened at one edge is accommodated at that edge in the grooves. The bottoms of the grooves form a rolling surface along which the balls are capable of moving by the flattened edge. At the other edge the balls are accommodated, rotating by the spherical edge in a recess forming a part of the housing. The housing has a plurality of rotating ball-shaped elements with a recess in each element, in which recess the spherical edge of the respective ball is partially accommodated.

  • Patent number: 4548621
Abstract: Recovery of zinc from a gas containing zinc vapor is carried out by means of lead circulating in a circuit and separating out pure metallic zinc by cooling said lead. The gas containing zinc vapor is brought into intimate contact with atomized lead in liquid form which takes up the zinc. The lead is introduced at the top of a cooling tower (1) and the gas is conducted in counter-flow to the atomized lead droplets. Lead collected at the bottom of the tower (1) is transported (7) to a separating chamber (8) where it is cooled, so that the zinc is segregated from the lead and can be separated (10). The lead is then cooled further before being recirculated (15, 16) to the top of the cooling tower.

  • Patent number: 4544164
Abstract: A seal for a shaft rotatably mounted in a housing. The seal is fabricated of a resilient material and includes a generally hollow elliptical attachment and an annular lip-shaped element which extends outwardly at an angle from a top side of the attachment. The lip-shaped element has a terminal free end which rests against the housing in a plane perpendicular to the shaft axis. When the seal is slidably positioned on the shaft the elliptical attachment deforms into a cylindrical shape in sealing relation with the shaft. This deformation causes the lip-shaped element to assume an elliptical configuration. Rotation of the shaft relative to the housing causes the free end of the lip-shaped element to move back and forth in a radial direction affecting removal of dirt particles from the housing.

In order to maintain a precise centering of the seal connected to the holding ring, between the outer and inner ring, the holding ring has spring fingers on its axially outer end and a centering section on its axially inner end. The centering section is radially supported in the bore of the outer ring or on the outer surface of the inner ring.

  • Patent number: 4541740
Abstract: A rotor bearing assembly is provided wherein a shaft is journalled within a housing by a pair of spaced bearings packed in a quantity of grease. An oil guide surrounds the shaft and a storage space between the guide and the housing is formed for retaining a supply of grease capable of releasing oil into the guide to replenish the packing. A fresh supply of grease is periodically introduced into the storage space through an inlet extending through the housing. An outlet extends through the housing for discharging a corresponding quantity of grease from the storage space into a collection chamber exterior of the housing which receives and holds the discharged grease.
