  • Patent number: 4511192
Abstract: A support for a tension roller is comprised of two cup-shaped sleeves, oriented with their open ends in the same direction, and with an inner one of the cup-shaped sleeves extending into the other of the cup-shaped sleeves. The outer end of the inner cup-shaped sleeve is outwardly flanged, to define a clamp between the flange and the open end of the other cup-shaped sleeve for holding the inner ring of the tension roller bearing. The bottoms of the two cup-shaped sleeves are initially spaced, and are drawn together upon tightening of a mounting screw extending therethrough into a machine frame, in order to clamp the inner bearing ring between the flange and the open end of the other cup-shaped sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4511837
Abstract: A system for measuring the variation in the capacitance of a bearing installed on a shaft in a housing. It is shown to include an electrically conductive measuring ring interposed between the bearing and the housing, an insulating layer surrounding the measuring ring wherein the insulating layer between the bearing and the measuring ring is considerably thinner than the remaining portion of the insulating layer, and measuring means connected to the measuring ring and the shaft to measure the variations in the capacitance of the bearing. • Patent number: 4511188
Abstract: A ball bearing for lengthwise and rotational movement on a shaft has circumferentially distributed endless rows of balls. It consists of an outer sleeve with an axially extending cylindrical race in its bore for the loaded balls of each row and a sleeve-shaped cage rotatably arranged in the bore of the outer sleeve. The cage has axially extending races for the loaded and unloaded balls and these guides are interconnected in pairs by semi-circular shaped radially outwardly open turnaround races. An axially extending return recess for the unloaded balls of each row is machined between each pair of cylindrical races, either in the cylindrical bore of the outer sleeve or on the cylindrical shaft. In order to avoid contact wear of the balls in the turnaround races upon turning movement of the shaft, the cage is held at its two ends by an end ring having an outer section radially covering the turnaround guides of the cage.

  • Patent number: 4505369
Abstract: In a clutch throwout, particularly for automotive clutches, a self-centering clutch bearing is arranged on or in a sliding sleeve. The stationary bearing ring of the clutch bearing is connected with the sliding sleeve via an intermediate element, which features guides for the radial sliding, in two mutually crossing radial directions, of the clutch bearing in relation to the sliding sleeve. To enable the clutch bearing to slide in any radial direction and to position itself precisely centered in relation to the tongue ends of the clutch diaphragm spring, without great constraining forces, while, regardless of position, damping the relative movements of clutch bearing in relation to sliding sleeve, intermediate element is radially interlocked with the stationary bearing ring and with the sliding sleeve, in two mutually crossing directions.

  • Patent number: 4501114
Abstract: The passage of material through a textile spinning or twisting machine is regulated through operation of a control element associated with the movement of said material. Light reflected from the moving material is converted into a variable electrical signal which is then modulated and used to operate a light-emitter. The modulated output of the light-emitter is sensed by a receiver located remote therefrom, but in direct-line-of sight, into an electrical command signal for operating the control element.

  • Patent number: 4488905
Abstract: A method of reducing and recovering volatile metal from metal oxides comprising the steps of injecting metal oxide-containing material into a shaft reactor, simultaneously injecting reducing agent into said reactor, continuously maintaining said reactor substantially filled with coke, supplying thermal energy to the reactor, preferably by means of a plasma burner, such that at least some of the metal oxides are reduced to metal and melted or volatilized depending upon whether the metal is volatile. The melted metal is removed from the bottom of the reactor while the volatilized metal is permitted to flow upwardly through the shaft reactor in the form of metal vapor together with a gas flow. The coke in the shaft reactor through which the volatilized metal passes is maintained at a temperature in excess of 1000.degree. C., thus screening the upper portion of the shaft reactor and the reactor top by means of the coke so as to prevent condensation of the volatilized metal.
