Abstract: An improved process for preparing factor VIII concentrate which comprises a first stage wherein fibrinogen is precipitated from a buffered plasma or plasma cryoprecipitate solution by the addition of a polyol and a second stage where factor VIII is precipitated from the resulting supernatant also by the addition of a polyol. The improvement in the first stage resides in adding the polyol in an amount of 1-3% and maintaining the temperature of the buffered solution between about 2.degree.-4.degree. C.

Abstract: A process for the permanent reshaping of hair consists in reducing the bisulfide bonds of the keratin by applying a reducing composition containing a cationic polymer and reforming the said bonds by applying an oxidizing composition in the presence of an anionic surface active agent.

Abstract: A process for reducing the volatility and improving the emulsifying power of an unsaturated or saturated cosmetic oil comprising heating the cosmetic oil, in the absence of a solvent and under an inert atmosphere, with a homopolymerizable and hydrophilic monomer in the presence of an initiator generating free radicals. The monomer is selected from the group consisting of N-vinylpyrrolidone, 2-hydroxymethyl acrylate, 2-hydroxymethyl methacrylate, acrylamide, methacrylamide, N-hydroxymethyl acrylamide, N-(carboxyhydroxy) methacrylamide, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, 2-vinylpyridine, 4-vinylpyridine and a monomer having the formula, ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or methyl, Y is O or NH, r' is methyl or ethyl and n is 2 or 3. The resulting modified oil is then purified to remove any insoluble nongrafted homopolymer.

Abstract: A stable oil-in-water emulsion for use in cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions includes as the emulsifying system therefor a combination of (i) a mixture of (1) mono- or di-alkyl carboxylates of .alpha.-methyl glucoside, or a mixture thereof and (2) mono- or di-alkyl carboxylates of .alpha.-methyl glucoside polyoxyethylenated with 10-30 moles of ethylene oxide, or a mixture thereof, the said alkyl moiety of each being linear or branched and having from 11-21 carbon atoms, (ii) lecithin, (iii) egg yolk oil, and (iv) a polyacrylic type polymer.

Abstract: A process for dyeing hair comprises in sequence applying to the hair an oxidation hair dye composition comprising a mixture of an oxidation dye, a cationic polymer and an oxidizing agent in an oxidation dye carrier, permitting said oxidation hair dye composition to remain in contact therewith for a time ranging from about 15-40 minutes, rinsing the hair with water, then applying to the rinsed hair a shampoo composition containing an anionic detergent and thereafter rinsing said hair with water.

Abstract: New dyestuffs are described for keratinic fibers which produce particularly luminous shades without the need for an oxidizing agent. Abstract: Novel compounds of the general formula ##STR1## wherein Z represents a substituted lower alkyl radical; each of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl or a substituted lower alkyl identical with or different from Z and the functional groups NO.sub.2 and NR.sub.1 R.sub.2 can occupy all ring positions in relation to OZ, with the exception that if Z is .beta.-hydroxyethyl, --NO.sub.2 is in the 4 position and --N(R.sub.1)(R.sub.2) is in the 2 position then either R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 is other than hydrogen.The novel compounds are for dyeing human hair in a variety of yellow shades. The compounds of formula (I) may be used as aqueous or water-alcohol solutions to form dye compositions for dyeing human hair.

Abstract: Novel meta-phenylenediamines are provided for use as couplers with dye bases in hair dye compositions. These meta-phenylenediamines have the formula: ##STR1## in which n is 2, 3 or 4. Their acid addition salts may also be used.

Abstract: A 1,2-alkanediol derivative has the formula ##STR1## wherein X represents oxygen or ##STR2## linked to R' through the free bond of the carbon atom of the carbonyloxy group, R' represents saturated alkyl having 5-21 carbon atoms or wherein X represents ##STR3## R' represents the hydrocarbon residue of lanolic acid, one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represents linear alkyl having 8 to 16 carbon atoms and the other represents hydrogen, and mixtures of said derivative. The said derivative or mixtures thereof is employed as an excipient in cosmetic compositions.

Abstract: A shampoo or bubble bath composition contains in combination a cationic, amphoteric or zwitterionic surfactant and at least one 1,2-alkane diol. Preferably, the composition also includes a nonionic surfactant.

Abstract: The present invention has for its object novel copolymers with a base of N-alkyl acrylamide or methacrylamide and their uses in cosmetics particularly in setting lotions and lacquer and in other preparations such as, for example, nail polish.

Abstract: New amphoteric compounds which contain two basic groups, at least one of which is a quaternary ammonium group, and an anionic group of the carboxylic type and one or two lipophile chains. These compounds have excellent cationic characteristics while being less, and in some cases non-irritating to the mucous membrane of the eye.

Abstract: A method for improving the appearance of the greasy skin of the face of a person having a skin so characterized, which comprises topically applying to the skin of the face an effective amount of a composition containing as an active ingredient a cis or trans 3,4-thiolannediol, its cis or trans S-oxide derivatives or its cis or trans S-dioxide derivatives.

Abstract: An anti-solar cosmetic composition contains as the anti-solar agent a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or alkyl containing 1-12 carbon atoms, Y is hydrogen, methyl or halogen and X is halide, arylsulfonate, alkylsulfonate, camphosulfonate or alkyl sulfate. The antisolar agent is present in amounts of 0.05-10 percent by weight of said composition.
