  • Patent number: 4567717
Abstract: A multi-row forage harvester row crop header attachment having a rearwardly disposed transversely extending consolidating auger section and a plurality of fore-and-aft crop dividers projecting forwardly from the auger section. The crop dividers define passageways for accommodating rows of crop material. Crop severing means are disposed along each passageway for cutting the crop that is guided rearwardly during operation. Gathering and feeding mechanisms disposed along the passageways engage the severed crop material and feed it rearwardly to the auger section. The auger section includes a rear wall having an outlet for discharging crop that is conveyed laterally via the auger. Crop material being guided to the auger via the outward passageways is fed from the outlet of the passageway to the auger in a path that avoids a collision and thereby obviates bunching with crop material being fed from the next adjacent inward passageway.

  • Patent number: 4567438
Abstract: A type of Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) requires that relatively large, circular, toroidally wound wire coils within a first cavity of a superconducting canister should be inductively coupled to a relatively small SQUID created as an annular ring plus Josephson junctions upon a substrate within a second cavity of the superconducting canister. The required inductive coupling is through a dielectric filled cavity called a coupling cavity which is conical in the shape of a dunce's cap. The conically shaped coupling cavity within the superconducting canister minimizes the parasitic stray inductance which is coupled to the SQUID, and thusly improves the noise performance of the SQUID.

  • Patent number: 4567428
Abstract: A first sensor for the detection of dielectric failure (by burning) within a multilayer printed circuit assembly comprises an isolated conductive layer. This first sensor is connected by a first diode to a single wire which also connects a second, temperature, sensor via a second diode (system ground is a return). A multiplicity, nominally 16, of such single wire connected sensor pairs are selectable in accordance with an externally (microprocessor) furnished address. During a first time period, an externally (microprocessor) selected interrogation of temperature causes a first, positive, voltage bias to be applied to the selected sensor pair resulting in a current linear with temperature (over the range of 0.degree. C. to 100.degree. C.) in the second sensor. This current is transformed to voltage, offset by 273.degree. Kelvin, amplified, and converted to a digital value for issuance to an external (microprocessor) requestor.

  • Patent number: 4561718
Abstract: An optical waveguide apparatus provides for single-mode and multimode switching or modulation of light wave energy with reduced bias voltages. Optical channels are formed in a crystal substrate by depositing film stripes thereon to cause stress-induced changes in the relative refractive index. Coupling or switching of light waves between the channels is provided by applying a bias which is of reversed polarity at adjacent film stripes, thereby augmenting or diminishing the stress in individual channels. By allowing operation with close spacing of the electrodes and using the enhancement in refractive index change of the stressed substrate in combination with the applied bias, the required control voltage is substantially reduced.

  • Patent number: 4560939
Abstract: A data processing system is provided with multiple system clock sources operating at different frequencies for selectively and synchronously driving a plurality of clock pulse generators. The clock pulse generators include four-stage ring counters which may be controlled to produce either four or eight phase clocking signals. When a change is to be made from one system clock source to another, the clock pulse generators are stopped. A phase capture register stores an indication of the last phase generated. While the clock pulse generators are stopped, the change over to the new system clock source is made. The clock pulse generators are restarted at a first time or a second, later time depending upon whether the stored phase indication indicates that the clock pulse generators were stopped at one of phases 5-8 or one of phases 1-4.

  • Patent number: 4558302
Abstract: A data compressor compresses an input stream of data character signals by storing in a string table strings of data character signals encountered in the input stream. The compressor searches the input stream to determine the longest match to a stored string. Each stored string comprises a prefix string and an extension character where the extension character is the last character in the string and the prefix string comprises all but the extension character. Each string has a code signal associated therewith and a string is stored in the string table by, at least implicitly, storing the code signal for the string, the code signal for the string prefix and the extension character. When the longest match between the input data character stream and the stored strings is determined, the code signal for the longest match is transmitted as the compressed code signal for the encountered string of characters and an extension string is stored in the string table.
