Patent number: 5486021Abstract: Multiple ply labels include removable single ply portions for use in facilitating package shipment operations. Two-ply and a three-ply embodiments are disclosed with release material being applied to portions of a second or bottom ply which are overlain by tab portions of a first or top ply having adhesive applied to the underside of the tab portions and around the periphery of the top and bottom plies to adhere the plies to one another to assemble the labels. The tab portions are preferably formed by die cuts; however, lines of weakness created for example by creasing or lines of perforations can be used to make the tab portions readily separable from the top ply. Card portions are also formed by lines of perforations or other lines of weakness in the top ply with the card portions being formed clear of any adhesive coating such that they are free of adhesive for filing, mailing or other applications related to the package shipment operations.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1994Date of Patent: January 23, 1996Assignee: The Standard Register CompanyInventor: David F. Patent number: 5486436Abstract: A web or sheet product is provided which is coated on at least a portion of its surface with a bond-enabling material for adhering toner particles, on the surface of the sheet. The sheet product can be used as a mailer or confidential form which is sealed using toner particles as the adhesive. The bond-enabling material may be a polymer which is coated on the sheet as a liquid and then cured to form a film on the surface of the sheet. The bond-enabling material is resistant to melting or degrading when exposed to temperatures used for fusing toner particles, and additionally may act as a tie coat to enhance the adhesion of toner particles to the surface of the sheet. The bond-enabling material may be coated on the peripheral edges of the sheet, and toner particles are printed over the bond-enabling material on the peripheral edges of the sheet. The sheet is folded and sealed by the application of heat and pressure to the edges of the sheet.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1993Date of Patent: January 23, 1996Assignee: The Standard Register CompanyInventor: A. Patent number: 5481985Abstract: A novel combination of a rail car supported on a within the center bowl of its truck bolster comprises a unitary wear liner closely fitted within the center bowl so as to require no exterior protection from grit and debris carried in the environment outside that of the center plate assembly held in the bowl. The unitary wear liner is required to be formed from specified reaction injection molded (RIM) polymers which when molded, are found to be free of microscopic voids >20 .mu.m and therefore, fully dense. This property of being fully dense unexpectedly allows the liner to have specified physical properties which permit a railroad car truck equipped with the liners to operate with exceptional reliability, safety and for a long period of time.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1994Date of Patent: January 9, 1996Assignee: Standard Car Truck CompanyInventors: Mark W. Patent number: 5478516Abstract: A method of forming an elongated trim strip product includes extruding a first strip of thermoplastic material from a die having an outlet with an area at least substantially as great as the desired cross-sectional area of the strip product in planes perpendicular to the direction of extrusion. Immediately subsequent to the step of extruding and while the extruded strip is still in a plastic state, it is passed longitudinally between cooperating forming rolls to shape the cross section of the extruded strip to the desired shape and cross section of the strip product. Further, while passing between the rolls a logo or lettering is formed on the strip. While the extruded strip is passing between the cooperating forming rolls, a backing strip of foil or thin metal is directed between the rolls in alignment with the extruded strip to bond the backing strip to the extruded strip.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1994Date of Patent: December 26, 1995Assignee: The Standard Products CompanyInventors: Douglas N. Patent number: 5474097Abstract: A pipe and tube cleaning system, particularly useful for cleaning scale from pipes and tubes used in oil and gas production operations and containing naturally occurring radioactive materials in the scale, includes an elongated closable tub for supporting a section of pipe or tube for combined hydraulic jet blast and mechanical cutting and cleaning action by a lance insertable within the pipe to remove scale from the interior of the pipe. A slurry of particulate material removed from the pipe and the cleaning liquid (water) is collected in the tub and discharged to a particle size reduction and filtering system which reduces the particle size of the material to form a slurry of very fine particles which may be disposed of through an injection well. Some of the slurry may be returned to the system for use as cleaning liquid. Pipe is loaded into and removed from the tub by a pipe handling mechanism including retractable supports with ramp surfaces which position the pipe for movement into and out of the tub.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1993Date of Patent: December 12, 1995Assignees: Atlantic Richfield Company, The Standard Oil CompanyInventors: David J. Patent number: 5469910Abstract: Molten steel is continuously teemed into a casting passage to establish a bath of molten steel in the passage. The molten steel is partially solidified in the casting passage to form a strand having a plurality of bulges which are uniformly distributed circumferentially of the strand. The strand is continuously withdrawn from the casting passage and the bulges are deformed during strand withdrawal so as to reduce bulge size. The amount of deformation is regulated by varying the bath level as a function of one or more casting parameters.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1994Date of Patent: November 28, 1995Assignee: Concast Standard AGInventors: Franciszek Kawa, Adrian Stilli, Adalbert Roehrig
