Patent number: 5337424Abstract: A shower partition of the type which is attached to a wall and which can be swiveled as well as swung open and closed, between a rest position and an open position in which the shower partition forms an enclosed shower stall in conjunction with the wall to which it is attached. The shower partition includes a pair of separate subunits, each of which includes a plurality of segments which are hinged with one another. A first end of each subunit is attached to the wall in spaced apart relationship with respect to the first end of the other subunit, and opposite, second ends of the subunits abut one another, when opened, to form the shower stall. When the subunits are opened to form the shower stall, the inner segments are able to fold outward to the rest position while the outer segments are able to fold inward into the rest position but are blocked from folding further outward.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1992Date of Patent: August 16, 1994Assignee: Ideal-Standard GmbHInventors: Ludger Strack, Konrad Bergmann, Klaus Laeller

Patent number: 5324229Abstract: A two section damper assembly and method of use is disclosed for avoiding stratification of cooled air in an air conditioning system. The damper assembly is especially adapted for use in variable air volume air conditioning systems that include an economizer. During the economizer mode of operation, the building in which the air conditioning system is installed is cooled at least partially with outside air as opposed to cooling solely by mechanical means and the volume of air that is required may be relatively low. The variable two section damper assembly ensures that an adequate volume of cooling air is taken in and that there is adequate velocity of the outside air and return air to ensure mixing of the outside air with the return air in order to avoid the stratification of the supply air that can occur. The damper assembly is variable in the size of the opened area and in the direction that the individual vanes of the damper assembly are set.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1993Date of Patent: June 28, 1994Assignee: American Standard Inc.Inventor: Richard T. Patent number: 5319945Abstract: An over-pressure control apparatus for a refrigeration system provides for non-atmospheric venting of an evaporator during over-pressure conditions. The control apparatus includes a sensor for indicating evaporator pressure, a storage vessel for receiving liquid refrigerant from the evaporator, and a controller responsive to the sensor. The controller acts in response to the reading of the sensor to selectively open and close at least one control valve coupling the storage vessel to the evaporator and condenser of the refrigeration system. Liquid refrigerant is vented from the evaporator to the storage vessel in response to a detected over-pressure condition. The over-pressure control method hereof acts to vent liquid refrigerant from the evaporator at a predetermined pressure above normal operating pressure, but below the pressure where emergency venting of refrigerant vapor from the evaporator to the atmosphere is required.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1992Date of Patent: June 14, 1994Assignee: American Standard Inc.Inventor: David W.
