Abstract: Disclosed is a process for oxidizing ethane to acetic acid which comprises feeding ethane and a recycle gas to a fluidized bed reaction zone containing fluidized particulate solid oxidation catalyst, feeding a molecular oxygen-containing gas separately from said ethane to said reaction zone so that said molecular oxygen-containing gas first mixes with the major portion of the combustible hydrocarbon feed gases within the fluidized bed, said process including the steps of (1) cooling the gaseous effluent from the reaction zone, (2) separating most of the acetic acid in liquid form from the effluent gases, leaving a gaseous stream containing nearly all of the carbon oxides contained in said effluent, (3) purging a small portion of said gaseous stream and recycling most of said gaseous stream as part of the feed to said reaction zone,wherein said purging serves to prevent build-up of carbon oxides in the reaction zone, and said recycling serves to maintain a high proportion of carbon oxides in said reaction zone

Abstract: This invention is a pole splicing joint construction and method of making the same and consists in initially preparing the upper end portion of the lower pole section to produce a splicing section having an abutment shoulder for the lower end of the upper section. This abutment shoulder is formed at the bottom of the splicing section of the lower pole section which has an outer abutment ring surface lying in a plane oriented substantially normal to the axis of the lower tube section.

Abstract: A low side scroll compressor is protected from both the potentially damaging effects of improper electrical hookup and the development of high discharge temperatures by apparatus disposed in a passage which communicates between the suction pressure portion and a discharge pressure portion of the compressor. The apparatus operates to permit gas flow from the suction to the discharge pressure portion of the compressor through a protective passage, such as when the compressor runs backwards due to miswiring, so as to avert damage to the scroll members. The apparatus permits the flow of gas from the discharge to the suction pressure portion of the compressor through the passage when the temperature of the discharge gas produced by the compressor exceeds a predetermined temperature indicative of an abnormal compressor operating condition. The resulting gas flow in the latter case causes the compressor motor to de-energize.

Abstract: A retainer and seal gasket is disclosed for a thermally insulated cabinet having a door. The configuration reduces the gap between the door and cabinet, and eliminates exposure of metal components to the cabinet interior. The retainer clamps the shell and liner of the container together without requiring separate mechanical fasteners. The retainer clips onto the shell and liner of the cabinet. The retainer further has a fastening means for securing the retainer and the seal gasket in an interlocking relationship. The retainer may include at least one anchoring rib for affixing the retainer within insulation inserted between the shell and liner of the container. The seal gasket provides a flexible bumper and a magnetic seal for releasably closing the door of the cabinet.
Abstract: A knit terry fabric having hydrophobic/hydrophilic characteristics provides hygienic panels for washable, reusable, incontinent pads and diapers. In one embodiment, a non-woven fabric, stiffener sheet is employed in an incontinent pad to resist its being folded in use. The diaper embodiment employs a Y-shaped configuration and is provided with preventing Velcro fasteners from being fouled during washing.
Abstract: A process for the substantial or complete elimination of ammonium sulfate generated during the production of acrylonitrile by the direct ammoxidation of propylene/propane, ammonia and an oxygen containing gas (e.g. air) over a fluid bed catalyst wherein the improvement comprises introducing an organic compound(s) into said reactor at a location where the compound(s) reacts with substantially all of the excess ammonia without affecting the acrylonitrile yield. Preferably, the organic compound is methanol which is introduced into the reactor at below its coking temperature.

Abstract: A mailer product is provided which is formed from a single sheet of paper having first, second and third sections. The first and second sections are separated by a first transverse line and the second and third sections are separated by a second transverse line. The sheet of paper is foldable along the first and second transverse lines so that the first section overlies the second section and the third section overlies the first and second sections. First adhesive material is provided on one of the first and the second sections of the sheet for securing the first and the second sections to one another when the sheet is folded along the first transverse line, thereby forming a return envelope. Abstract: A printable product label assembly having a selectably adhesive portion is provided. The label assembly includes a printable face sheet overlying a liner sheet, a releasable adhesive securing a first portion of the face sheet to a first portion of the liner sheet such that the face sheet and liner sheet are readily separable upon the application of a sufficient delaminating force. A pressure sensitive adhesive secures a second portion of the face sheet to a second portion of the liner sheet such that when the label is removed from the liner sheet, only a selected area of the label includes the pressure sensitive adhesive, while the remainder of the label is nontacky to the touch.

A caged bolt is provided in a transverse aperture extending through the hardware item. A mounting bolt includes a head-distal shank portion for engagement with the bolt when inserted through the hardware rear face, and head-proximate unthreaded shank portion for capture by the caged nut when the bolt is inserted through the hardware item from the front face. The caged nut can be positioned along the length of the aperture to align with a panel mounting hole.
