  • Patent number: 4939455
Abstract: A sensor is connectable with a load circuit via two conductors. The sensor receives its electrical power from the load circuit via the two conductors and similarly provides its output signal indicative of the sensed phenomenon via the same conductors. An unregulated source potential is provided to a terminal of the sensor from a supply potential via the load circuit. Voltage regulating circuitry in the sensor converts the unregulated source potential to a regulated operating potential for its active circuit elements. Certain output circuitry in the sensor is connected to the terminal having the unregulated source potential for conveying an output signal from the sensor to the load circuit.

  • Patent number: 4934910
Abstract: Fluid apparatus of the scroll-type are disclosed wherein radially compliant means effect relative orbital motion between first and second wrap elements such that actual moving line contact occurs between their flank surfaces, and wherein linkage means interconnect one of the wrap elements and crankshaft means such that a component of the force acting therebetween is imposed upon the wrap element in a radially outward direction in order to provide a sealing or contact force between the wrap elements. Counterweight means impose a force upon the wrap element in a radially inward direction which is substantially equal to the centrifugal force experienced thereby, whereby the contact force is made independent of the operating speed of the apparatus and self-compensating with respect to pressure conditions therein.

  • Patent number: 4933303
Abstract: A process is disclosed for making a self-aligned metal (preferably tungsten) connection in an integrated circuit. A contact hole formed in a first dielectric layer on a substrate is filled with metal, after which the first dielectric layer and the metal-filled contact hole are covered with a second dielectric layer. A photoresist layer is formed over the second dielectric layer and is patterned. A trench is formed in the exposed second dielectric layer and a thin layer of silicon or a metal such as tungsten is then sputtered or evaporated to form a layer of the silicon or metal on the upper surface of the patterned photoresist and the bottom and side walls of the trench. The patterned photoresist is removed and the trench is filled with metal.

  • Patent number: 4933711
Abstract: There is disclosed herein an improved automated photofinishing packaging system for receiving film, processing it into the final prints, and packaging the film with the associated prints. The improvement pertains to a technique for encoding identification data onto the roll of prints which data can key the prints to the associated film during packaging. If more prints are in a particular order than are necessary to encode the identification data, the encoding of the identification data is repeated until substantially all prints in the order have been encoded. In addition, in one embodiment, each encoding of the identification data is followed by the encoding of distinguishable synchronization data, which can be used to distinguish between the repeated encodings of the identification data.

  • Patent number: 4928750
Abstract: A refrigeration system for temperature conditioning several comfort zones includes several VAV (variable air volume) valves each having a hot water coil conveying water whose flow rate is regulated by a PWM (pulse-width modulated) solenoid valve. Each VAV valve is connected to a supply air duct conveying cool supply air. When a zone's temperature is above a set point temperature, the opening of the VAV valve is modulated to meet the cooling demand, and the water coil is shut off. When a zone's temperature is below the set point, the VAV valve is opened to provide a predetermined constant airflow rate and the hot water coil's solenoid valve is cycled open and closed in a pulse-width modulated manner to meet the heating demand.
