Abstract: A line-scan Brillouin microscopy apparatus is configured to operate in a coaxial configuration. The line-scan Brillouin microscopy apparatus includes an illumination source that provides a P polarized illumination light beam for illuminating a sample. A first optical assembly provides the P polarized illumination light beam to the sample and collects initial Brillouin scattered light from the sample. The first optical assembly includes an optical component that converts the initial Brillouin scattered light to S polarized Brillouin scattered light. A second optical assembly is configured to receive the S polarized Brillouin scattered light from the first optical assembly. Characteristically, the second optical assembly is configured to induce a spectral dispersion. A detection unit is configured to detect a spatio-spectral pattern of the initial Brillouin scattered light. Advantageously, multiple points of the sample along P polarized illumination light beam are measured simultaneously.
Abstract: For communicating securely between network nodes, a method transmits a port knock sequence comprising ordered empty protocol packets from an origination node to a destination Internet Protocol (IP) address of a destination node. The port knock sequence encodes at least one vocabulary phrase. The method transmits the length of the at least one vocabulary phrase to first and second helper nodes. The method generates a corresponding substitute phrase for each at least one vocabulary phrase through communication between the first helper node and the second helper node. The method receives the corresponding substitute phrase for each at least one vocabulary phrase at the origination node and the destination node. The method generates a node nonce based on the at least one corresponding substitute phrase. The method securely communicates between the origination node and the destination node using the node nonce.

Abstract: Isothiocyanate (ITC)-androgen receptor (AR) inhibitor conjugates for apoptosis induction in cancer cells are described. The conjugates can have electrophilicity blocked with an agent such as N-acetyl cysteine. When administered in combination with a glutathione (GSH)-depleting agent, the conjugates result in ferroptosis of cancer cells.

Abstract: One aspect of the present application relates to a method of synthesizing a thermoplastic polymer. This method includes providing a depolymerized lignin product comprising monomers and oligomers and producing lignin (meth)acrylate monomers and oligomers from the depolymerized lignin product. A thermoplastic lignin (meth)acrylate polymer is then formed by free radical polymerization of the lignin (meth)acrylate monomers and oligomers. The present application also relates to a branched chain thermoplastic lignin (meth)acrylate polymer which includes a chain transfer agent. The thermoplastic lignin based polymers of the present application can be used to prepare carbon fibers, and engineering thermoplastics. Mixtures of lignin (meth)acrylate monomers and oligomers are also disclosed.

Abstract: A wirelessly powered resistive sensor is presented. The sensor includes: an antenna; a parametric resonator and a resistive loop circuit. The parametric resonator is configured to receive a pumping signal from the antenna and operable to oscillate at two frequencies. The resistive loop circuit is inductively coupled to the parametric resonator, such that oscillation frequency of the parametric resonator changes (e.g., linearly) with changes in resistance of the resistance loop circuit. The resistance of the resistor in the resistive loop circuit approximately equals the impedance of the resistive loop circuit at one resonance frequency of the parametric resonator. The resistive sensor may further include a resonator enhancer circuit arranged adjacent to the parametric resonator and operates to resonate at frequency of the pumping signal.

Abstract: ‘NCORNSP-032SCRHI’ is a moderately compact and loosely upright variety with a moderate growth rate and is well branched. It is distinguishable from other ornamental sweetpotato cultivars by its red to burgundy five lobed leaves, a moderately-compact habit and semi-erect mounding plant architecture. The burgundy leaves, uniform color, short internodes, and the plant architecture, which promotes good plant production in the greenhouse for wholesale distributors, distinguishes ‘NCORNSP-032SCRHI’ amongst the current ornamental sweetpotatoes in the marketplace. In greenhouse and field trials, ‘NCORNSP-032SCRHI’ is shown to be suitable for use as a landscape or containerized plant. The production of flowers by ‘NCORNSP-032SCRHI’ is not observed under short-day conditions.
