Abstract: This disclosure provides novel methods and systems for novel two-way knowledge distillation-based federated learning framework (referred to as Fed2KD) that can work homogeneous models, e.g., models with different configurations, user preferences, and/or different properties of user devices. In the disclosed Fed2KD, the knowledge exchange between the global and local models is achieved by distilling the information into or out from a tiny model with unified configuration using a proxy dataset generated by conditional variational autoencoder (CVAE). In another aspect, an improved federated learning framework is disclosed that implements a federated learning-based Next Generation Radio Access Networks (NG-RAN) algorithm (referred to as FedNG). The disclosed FedNG can be implemented to address the limited capacity of the fronthaul links as well as privacy concerns.

Abstract: Various embodiments comprise systems, methods, architectures, mechanisms and apparatus for undersea transmission using a Zero-Correlation-Zone (ZCZ) signal with an auto-correlation function having a zero-sidelobe zone, wherein modulated data is mapped to circular time shifts in ZCZ signals for transmission, and wherein periodic cross-correlation function peaks of received ZCZ signals are detected to enable thereby recovery of the circular time shifts in the received ZCZ signals in the time domain.

Abstract: Detection of synthetic content in portrait videos, e.g., deep fakes, is achieved. Detectors blindly utilizing deep learning are not effective in catching fake content, as generative models produce realistic results. However, biological signals hidden in portrait videos which are neither spatially nor temporally preserved in fake content, can be used as implicit descriptors of authenticity. 99.39% accuracy in pairwise separation is achieved. A generalized classifier for fake content is formulated by analyzing signal transformations and corresponding feature sets. Signal maps are generated, and a CNN employed to improve the classifier for detecting synthetic content. Evaluation on several datasets produced superior detection rates against baselines, independent of the source generator, or properties of available fake content.

Abstract: A machine-learning tool learns from sensors' data of a nuclear reactor at steady state and maps them to controls of the nuclear reactor. The tool learns all given ranges of normal operation and responses for corrective measures. The tool may train another learning tool (or the same tool) that forecasts the behavior of the reactor based on real-time changes (e.g., every 10 seconds). The tool implements an optimization technique for differing half-life materials to be placed in the reactor. The tool maximizes isotope production based on optimal controls of the reactor.

Abstract: Preparing hybrid-treated plastic particles from waste plastic includes combining waste plastic particles with bio-oil to yield a mixture, irradiating the mixture with microwave radiation to yield oil-treated plastic particles, and contacting the oil-treated plastic particles with carbon-containing nanoparticles to yield hybrid-treated plastic particles. The hybrid-treated plastic particles have a bio-oil modified surface and a coating comprising carbon-containing nanoparticles on the bio-oil modified surface of the plastic particle. In some examples, a diameter of the plastic particle is in a range between 250 ?m and 750 ?m, and a thickness of the coating is in a range of 1 nm to 20 nm. A modified binder includes an asphalt binder or a concrete binder and a multiplicity of the treated plastic particles. The modified binder typically includes 5 wt % to 25 wt % of the hybrid-treated plastic particles.

Abstract: The present invention provides livestock animals and methods to create recipient animals for spermatogonial stem cell transplantation through modulation of the NANOS gene. In one embodiment genome editing issued to create animals with insertions or deletions (indels) that inactivate or otherwise modulate NANOS gene activity so that resulting males lack functional germ cells yet retain functional somatic cells, and females are fertile. These males can then be transplanted with donor spermatogonial stem cells and used for breeding.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for direct radio frequency (RF) signal processing for heart rate (HR) monitoring using ultra-wide band (UWB) impulse radar are presented. A radar sensor is able to directly sample a received signal at RF which satisfies the Nyquist sampling rate, preserving a subject's vital sign information in the received signal. The vital sign information can be extracted directly from a raw RF signal and thus down conversion to a complex baseband is not required. The HR monitoring performance from the proposed direct RF signal processing technique provides an improvement in continuous HR monitoring as compared against existing methods using a complex baseband signal and/or other measurement techniques.
