Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include an apparatus for generating a plurality of movement impairment indices from one or more kinematic signals to characterize movement disorders. Additionally we disclose methods for generating a plurality of movement impairment indices from one or more kinematic signals obtained from one or more kinematic sensors, said methods implemented in a digital computer with one or more processors in order to characterize movement disorders based on spectral analysis, regularity metrics, and time-frequency analysis.

Abstract: The current disclosure describes methods for identifying subjects that would benefit from treatment with a chemotherapeutic agent. The disclosure is based in part on the observation that miR-129 expression levels are reduced in colorectal cancer. Accordingly, the current disclosure provides therapeutic compositions and methods for altering the expression of a miR-129 effector. Described herein are methods for characterizing the stage of colorectal cancer in a subject, based on the levels of miR-129 expression. The disclosure also identifies miR-129 as a predictive biomarker for cancer diagnosis and the subsequent treatment with directed therapeutic agents including but not limited to miR-129 nucleic acid molecules and/or a chemotherapeutic agent. The current disclosure also identifies novel therapeutic agents that modulate the level of BCL2, TS and/or E2F3 expression, as well as sensitize a subject to treatment with a chemotherapeutic agent.

Abstract: For multi-node encryption, a method generates an upstream node nonce from communication data exchanged with an upstream node. In addition, the method generates a first upstream message transformation as a function of the upstream node nonce. The method further generates a tunnel transformation as a function of previous upstream message transformations and the first upstream message transformation.
Abstract: For lingual transformation-based encryption, a method parses a secure message into lingual units. The method further generates a validation nonce from the lingual units. In addition, the method generates a transform unit for each lingual unit by applying a lingual message transformation to each lingual unit as an encryption function of a selection rule.
Abstract: Recombinant attenuated Y. pseudotuberculosis mutants have been created that show efficacy as oral vaccines against plague caused by Y. pestis and Yersinosis caused by both Y. enterocolitica and Y. pseudotuberculosis. Thus, live attenuated Y. pseudotuberculosis-based vaccines can be used to prevent Yersinosis in farm animals such as swine, cattle and sheep. The palatable baits containing live attenuated Y. pseudotuberculosis-based vaccines may be acceptable methods to control plague epidemics in wild animals. The methods disclosed can also be used to generate recombinant attenuated Y. entercolitica and Y. pestis vaccine strains.

Abstract: A product formed from a first material including a geopolymer resin material, a geopolymer resin, or a combination thereof by contacting the first material with a fluid and removing at least some of the fluid to yield a product. The first material may be formed by heating and/or aging an initial geopolymer resin material to yield the first material before contacting the first material with the fluid. In some cases, contacting the first material with the fluid breaks up or disintegrates the first material (e.g., in response to contact with the fluid and in the absence of external mechanical stress), thereby forming particles having an external dimension in a range between 1 nm and 2 cm.

Abstract: The present invention provides devices and associated methods to facilitate multiplexed staining on a slide. The use of multiplexed staining on a single slide allows for more accurate disease diagnosis while also conserving sample. A PDMS based cytology overlay was created that is capable of coupling on-chip morphological, cytochemical, and immunological staining. Morphological and cytochemical staining of blood smears, along with immunostaining of lymph node imprints, was carried out to demonstrate the application of this microfluidic cytology chip (?CC) device.

Abstract: Several mutated strains of Scheffersomyces stipitis are generated by repetitive culturing of the parent strain on two types of concentrated hydrolyzates and with ethanol-challenged xylose-fed continuous culture. Isolates collected from various enriched populations are screened and ranked based on relative xylose uptake rate and ethanol yield. Ranking on hydrolyzates with and without nutritional supplementation is used to identify those isolates with best performance across diverse conditions.
