Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein are directed to gaseous mercury detection systems, calibration systems, and related methods. The gaseous mercury detection systems are configured to detect gas-phase mercury-compounds present in ambient air. For example, the gaseous mercury detection systems collect gas-phase mercury-compounds from ambient air and release the gas-phase mercury-compounds at concentrations capable of being measured by a gas-chromatography mass spectrometer without heating the gas-phase mercury-compounds above a decomposition temperature of at least one gaseous mercury compound that may present in the mercury-containing gas. The calibration systems are configured to determine an accuracy of or calibrate a gaseous mercury detection system. • Patent number: 9252915
Abstract: This disclosure describes, in part, a system management component for use in a power grid data network to systematically adjust the quality of service of data published by publishers and subscribed to by subscribers within the network. In one implementation, subscribers may identify a desired data rate, a minimum acceptable data rate, desired latency, minimum acceptable latency and a priority for each subscription and the system management component may adjust the data rates in real-time to ensure that the power grid data network does not become overloaded and/or fail. In one example, subscriptions with lower priorities may have their quality of service adjusted before subscriptions with higher priorities. In each instance, the quality of service may be maintained, even if reduced, to meet or exceed the minimum acceptable quality of service for the subscription.

  • Patent number: 9252688
Abstract: An electrokinetic actuator for a propulsion system is described. The actuator includes an array of channels, with each channel having an inlet and an outlet. A reservoir is included that contains an ionic solution of particles. A first electrode proximate to (or deposited at) the inlet and a second electrode proximate to (or deposited at) the outlet are connected to a voltage source. The voltage source and electrodes apply a voltage across the length of the channels to generate an electric field parallel to each channel. The electric field causes an electro-osmotic flow of ions from the reservoir to the outlet producing electrokinetic thrust at the outlet. By varying the concentration of the ionic solution and the magnitude of the electric field, the electro-osmotic flow of ions is controlled.

  • Patent number: 9251606
Abstract: Provided herein is a computerized image reconstruction apparatus and method that includes recording projection path information and energy loss information of a plurality of particles traversing an object being imaged and determining an estimated image of the object based on the projection path information and the energy loss information sampled into a projection format. The estimated image includes an active volume defined by an enclosure border. Cost function minimization uses an Adaptive-weighted Total Variation cost function, a Penalized Weighted Least-Squares cost function, or an Alpha-Divergence cost function to update the estimated image. An iterative updating algorithm corresponding to the cost function updates the estimated image and produces a final image based on the estimated image according to a predetermined threshold.
