Patent number: 6193037Abstract: A hydrodynamic torque converter wherein the housing is connected to the output element of an engine in the power train of a motor vehicle and receives a coaxial hub which is rotatable by the turbine wheel in the housing or by a clutch disk forming part of a lockup clutch and being axially movably but non-rotatably mounted on the hub. The lockup clutch further comprises a piston which is rotatably and axially movably mounted on the hub, and a laimina which is non-rotatably but axially movably mounted in the housing and extends radially inwardly between the piston and the clutch disk. The clutch is engaged when the piston is moved axially of the housing to thus urge the lamina against the clutch disk and to thus bias the clutch disk against an adjacent wall of the housing so that the clutch disc then transmits torque between the housing and the hub to thus bypass the torque transmitting connection between the housing and the hub by way of a satator wheel in the housing and the turbine wheel.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1999Date of Patent: February 27, 2001Assignee: Luk Getreibe-Systeme GmbHInventors: Volker Middelmann, Wendy Boman, Mircea Gradu

Patent number: 6189925Abstract: A gas generator for an airbag system of a vehicle comprises a combustion chamber to accommodate a propellant which is able to be activated. The combustion chamber has outflow openings for a gas which is generated after the propellant has been activated. The outflow openings are covered inside the combustion chamber by a filtering device. The filtering device is arranged spaced apart from the outflow openings. The filtering device divides the combustion chamber in axial or radial direction into a combustion space for the propellant or into one or more expansion chambers for the gas which is generated. The filtering process of the filtering device becomes more reproducible in the region of the outflow openings and is therefore improved. There is a better utilization of the filtering material and a greater lifespan of the filtering device is likewise achieved.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1998Date of Patent: February 20, 2001Assignee: TRW Airbag Systems GmbH & Co. Patent number: 6190274Abstract: In a pair of conical disks (pulley halves) of an infinitely variable cone-pulley transmission, in the case where the conical disks are spaced apart, a pressure compartment through channels formed in a shaft A connects to a pressure chamber that serves to move one of the conical disks. The pressure compartment is on one side delimited by a piston-like part serving to modulate the pressure inside the compartment dependent on the torque acting on the pair of conical disks. By switching on the connection to the pressure compartment, the system pressure can be modulated not only dependent on the torque but also dependent on the transmission ratio. Advantageous designs of the valve arrangement for switching the pressure compartment on and off are described.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1999Date of Patent: February 20, 2001Assignee: LuK Getriebe-Systeme GmbHInventor: Bernhard Walter
