  • Patent number: 6175697
Abstract: A printer or copier has a developer station for a toner image wherein a photoconductive drum is provided with a latent charge image that is developed by applying a toner/air mixture to a developer drum that in turn applies the toner to the photoconductive drum. The toner is charged by a charging device as it is applied to the developer drum. A sensor senses the toner on the developer drum and a control varies the quantity of toner applied. The sensor is an optical sensor or a capacitive sensor, and the charge applied to the toner by the charging device is varied depending on the sensor output. A voltage applied to the developer drum may also be varied.

  • Patent number: 6175183
Abstract: A device for producing plasma in a vacuum chamber (13) with the help of electromagnetic alternating fields, in which a rod-shaped conductor (3) that is inside a pipe (2) and is made of an insulating material and is guided into the vacuum chamber (13). The inner diameter of the insulating pipe (2) is larger than the diameter of the conductor (3). The insulating pipe (2) is held in the wall (1) of the vacuum chamber (13) at one end, and its outer surface is sealed across from the vacuum chamber wall. The conductor (3) is connected to a source (9) for producing the electromagnetic alternating field. A pipe-shaped conductor (4) extends coaxially to the rod-shaped conductor (3) in the annulus formed by the rod-shaped conductor (3) and the insulating pipe (2), whereby the radial inner ring slot (14) formed between the rod-shaped conductor (3) and the pipe-shaped conductor (4) corresponds to the waveguide (10) of the source (9).

  • Patent number: 6174253
Abstract: An infinitely variable transmission has a first pair of conical flanges arranged on a first shaft and a second pair of conical flanges arranged on a second shaft, where each pair has an axially movable flange and an axially fixed flange. A torque-transmitting means is disposed between the pairs of conical flanges. Piston/cylinder units and plenum chambers comprising circular ring-shaped elements serve to apply pressure to and effect axial movement of the movable conical flanges. The ring-shaped elements have radially inner portions with openings to receive the shafts. The radially inner portion of at least one of the ring-shaped elements has a welded seam connecting the ring-shaped element to the shaft received by its opening.

  • Patent number: 6170508
Abstract: A valve for regulating the rate of flow and/or the pressure of oil flowing to a transmission or another consumer in the power train of a motor vehicle has a piston which defines with the valve housing a chamber for one or more springs and for oil being admitted through a first inlet by way of a first conduit containing a first throttle. A second inlet admits pressurized oil from a pump, and such oil can be admitted into the consumer by way of a first outlet and a second conduit containing a second throttle and supplying oil to the first conduit. A second outlet can deliver oil from the second inlet to the sump in response to shifting of the piston. A hydraulic seal is established between the piston and the housing intermediate the chamber and the second outlet to prevent leakage of oil from the chamber into the second outlet. Oil leaking from the chamber could adversely influence the characteristics of oil flowing into the consumer.

  • Patent number: 6170623
Abstract: A clutch between the combustion engine and the manual multiple-gear-ratio transmission in the power train of a motor vehicle is disengaged or otherwise adjusted in response to a signal from a control unit which processes signals transmitted by sensors serving to monitor the positions and/or the extent of movements of one or more mobile components of the manual transmission. A signal to disengage or to otherwise adjust the clutch is generated when the monitored position(s) of and/or the magnitude(s) of force(s) acting upon one or more mobile components indicate that the operator of the motor vehicle intends to shift the transmission into or from a selected gear ratio.

  • Patent number: 6170860
Abstract: A gas bag for a vehicular occupant restraint system comprises two plies of fabric partially interwoven along their outer edges. To offer protection over a lengthy period in time amounting to several seconds but nevertheless dissipate the energy of impact to the required degree on impact and cushioning of the occupant, the plies of fabric are substantially air-tight, and the volume of the gas bag is divided by partial interweaving of the plies of fabric within the outer edges into several chambers. Further, the chambers are interconnected by at least one choked port remaining between the portions of the interwoven plies of fabric. Only part of the chambers is directly inflated by an inflator, the remaining part of the chambers being indirectly inflated via the choked port.

  • Patent number: 6170603
Abstract: The invention relates to acoustic walls for large public events. Traditionally, sound is reproduced by using a plurality of large and heavy loudspeaker boxes which requires a complicated and expensive support system. The present invention provides a segmented acoustic wall which has an essentially flat shape and is also extremely lightweight. Several of these segments can be integrated to form an acoustic wall by coupling the different segments with one another, whereby the entire surface area of the acoustic wall can be used to radiate sound without requiring additional sound sources in the audience space. The various segments can be optimized for certain frequency ranges by tuning the surface area and depth of the respective segments to the respective transmitted frequencies. Several acoustic walls can be placed side-by-side to flexibly conform to different requirements in the audience space.

  • Patent number: 6171212
Abstract: The extent of engagement of an automatically adjustable friction clutch in the power train of a motor vehicle, wherein the clutch receives torque from a rotary output element of an engine and transmits torque to the rotary input element of a transmission, is determined by an electronic control unit in conjunction with an actuator which is responsive to signals from the control unit. Under normal circumstances, the adjustment of the clutch is selected on the basis of control signals which depend upon the actual RPM of the output element and the RPM of the input element. When the actual RPM of the output element departs from a desired RPM, the control signal is altered to reduce the rate of torque transmission by the clutch upon a determination that the actual RPM is below the desired RPM, and to increase the rate of torque transmission by the clutch when the actual RPM exceeds the desired RPM.

  • Patent number: 6168011
Abstract: An accumulation conveyor system for transporting piece goods along a predetermined path is disclosed. The system comprises a passively transporting element and an actively transporting element. The passively transporting element comprises a series of idle rollers arranged substantially in parallel with each other and form an elongated and substantially continuous and substantially equiplanar path for supporting the goods. An endless conveyor belt is provided for circulating around at least two guide rolls and forms an upper train for motion in a first direction and a lower train for motion in a second direction opposite to said first direction. The passively transporting element and the actively transporting element cooperate to convey the goods along a predetermined path and provides for smooth accumulation of the goods when movement of the goods closest to the delivery end is arrested.
