Abstract: A method and apparatus for hydrocarbon recovery and/or treatment of frac water includes introducing a volume of water into a formation, recovering the introduced water, with the recovered introduced water further comprising suspended hydrocarbon product. The recovered liquid is treated to remove substantial amounts of the suspended hydrocarbon product, provide the treated recovered liquid with a ORP in a range of 150 mv to 1000 mv, and partially desalinated, and is either re-introduced as treated recovered liquid with the ORP into a formation to assist in recovery of additional hydrocarbon deposits in the formation, or is stored to reduce the ORP and then subsequently discharged into surface waters.

Abstract: A mobile computing device is described. The mobile computing device includes an enclosure. A humidity sensor senses humidity inside the enclosure and generates humidity data. An internal temperature sensor senses a temperature inside the enclosure and generates internal temperature data. An external temperature sensor senses a temperature exterior to the enclosure and generates external temperature data. An environmental control apparatus adjusts at least a temperature inside the enclosure of the mobile electronic device. A processor receives the humidity data, the internal temperature data, and the external temperature data and activates the environmental control apparatus in response to the humidity data, the internal temperature data, and the external temperature data to minimize condensation from forming inside the enclosure due to rapid changes in external ambient temperature.

Abstract: A system that implements a data storage service may store data on behalf of storage service clients. The system may maintain data in multiple replicas of partitions that are stored on respective computing nodes in the system. The system may split a data partition into two new partitions, and may split the replica group that stored the original partitions into two new replica groups, each storing one of the new partitions. To split the replica group, the master replica may propagate membership changes to the other members of the replica group for adding members to the original replica group and for splitting the expanded replica group into two new replica groups. Subsequent to the split, replicas may attempt to become the master for the original replica group or for a new replica group. If an attempt to become master replica for the original replica group succeeds, the split may fail.

Abstract: Described herein are, among other things, systems and methods for generating and using manifests in delivering web content, and for using such manifests for prefetching. Manual and automated generation of manifests are disclosed. Such manifests preferably have placeholders or variables that can be populated at the time of the client request, based on data known from the request and other contextual information. Preferably though without limitation an intermediary device such as a proxy server, which may be part of content delivery network (CDN), performs the function of populating the manifest given a client request for a page. An intermediary or other computer device with a populated manifest can utilize that completed manifest to make anticipatory forward requests to an origin to obtain web resources specified on the manifest, before receiving the client's requests for them. In this way, many kinds of content may be prefetched based on the manifest.

  • Publication number: 20150119067
Abstract: A method and system for changing modes for ultrasonic locationing of a mobile device includes transmitting ultrasonic pulses using a transmit schedule by fixed ultrasonic emitters. When a fixed access point begins serving a new mobile device, those ultrasonic emitters proximal to the access point are deactivated and associated microphones are activated to receive an acoustic tone from the new mobile device. This acoustic tone is used to establish an initial location of the new mobile device using measurements of the received acoustic tone at each proximal microphone. The transmit schedule is adapted to accommodate the new mobile device at the initial location, and the proximal ultrasonic emitters are returned to transmit mode. In this way, an accurate starting position of the new mobile device is established without greatly interrupting other mobile devices that are currently being located.

Abstract: A non-ablative method and apparatus for making an economical glass hard disk (platter) for a computer hard disk drive (HDD) using a material machining technique involving filamentation by burst ultrafast laser pulses. Two related methods disclosed, differing only in whether the glass substrate the HDD platter is to be cut from has been coated with all the necessary material layers to function as a magnetic media in a computer's hard drive. Platter blanks are precisely cut using filamentation by burst ultrafast laser pulses such that the blank's edges need not be ground, the platter's geometric circularity need not be corrected and there is no need for further surface polishing. Thus the platters can be cut from raw glass or coated glass. As a result, this method reduces the product contamination, speeds up production, and realizes great reductions in the quantity of waste materials and lower production costs.

Abstract: A client requests access to a resource (e.g., a file) via a node of a storage system. The resource is stored in a directory structure. A directory in the directory structure that includes the resource and that does not have any locks that conflict with the requested access to the resource is identified and selected. A revocable access privilege (e.g., a lock) on the selected directory is awarded to the node accessed by the client, and a directory-to-node association is established. Another association between the requested resource and the node is also established. If there is a subsequent request for the resource or for another resource within that directory, then a revoke notice for the directory access privilege is sent to the node.

Abstract: Volume of a fluid in a tank is determined by measuring the pressure of fluid proximate to the bottom of the tank. The depth of the fluid is then determined from the pressure and density of the fluid. Fluid volume is then determined mathematically or from charts given the depth as well as the size and shape of a tank. Multiple pressure readings may be taken along the bottom of a tank, and an average pressure determined that may be used to calculate volume. Pressure readings may be taken at different heights to determine fluid density used to calculate volume. Pressure readings may be adjusted for atmospheric pressure. Volume increases or decreases exceeding a respective predetermined threshold may be flagged and alerts generated. Volume calculations may be recorded for comparing against a volume of fluid recorded as being purchased.
