Abstract: The present invention discloses an actuation mechanism for a water hammer valve. The water hammer valve is initially prevented from operating, and an actuation mechanism for the water hammer valve is actuated by dropping one or more balls or other objects onto the valve. Once actuated, the pilot and piston mechanism in the water hammer valve operate to produce hydraulic pulses from an upstream pressurized fluid.

Abstract: Systems, methods and apparatus for processing a substrate are described. A reactor includes a reaction chamber, a composite nozzle, and a reaction chamber outlet. The composite nozzle extends along a side of the chamber and includes a first nozzle and a second nozzle separate from and parallel the first nozzle. Each nozzle includes a body extending along an axis of elongation, an inlet providing communication between at least one source of a common species and an inner volume of the body, and holes spaced along the axis. The holes provide fluid communication between the inner volume and the chamber. The outlet is configured to allow flow from the composite nozzle through the chamber to the outlet. The first nozzle inlet is positioned at a first end of the first body, and the second nozzle inlet is positioned at a second end of the second body. The second end is opposite the first end of the first body.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for dynamic image composition guidance in digital cameras. The dynamic image composition guidance allows users, for example, amateurs or less experienced photographers, to effectively and properly use photographic composition techniques for improving the quality of digitally captured images. A guidance method on a camera device determines a geometric strength point according to an image composition rule for a scene captured on the camera device. A user of the camera device is then guided in real-time while moving the camera device to align an object of the scene with the geometric strength point before recapturing the scene on the camera device. The method includes displaying, with the geometric strength point, changes to the scene including a moving point associated with a focused object on the first image according to movements of the camera device in real-time.

Abstract: A method that may be performed in a data storage device includes selecting a writing order for data to be written to a set of word lines of a block of a non-volatile memory. The data is organized in pages that are ordered according to a logical page address order. The writing order is selected from at least a first order or a second order that is distinct from the first order. Stored data in the non-volatile memory written according to the first order has logical page addresses that decrease with increasing values of word line physical addresses. The method also includes writing the data to the set of word lines according to the selected writing order and storing a flag value that indicates the selected writing order.
Abstract: Embodiments of an apparatus comprising a pixel array including a plurality of pixels formed in a substrate having a front surface and a back surface, each pixel including a photosensitive region formed at or near the front surface and extending into the substrate a selected depth from the front surface. A filter array is coupled to the pixel array, the filter array including a plurality of individual filters each optically coupled to a corresponding photosensitive region, and a vertical overflow drain (VOD) is positioned in the substrate between the back surface and the photosensitive region of at least one pixel in the array.
Abstract: A system that provides services to clients may receive and service requests, various ones of which may require different amounts of work. The system may determine whether it is operating in an overloaded or underloaded state based on a current work throughput rate, a target work throughput rate, a maximum request rate, or an actual request rate, and may dynamically adjust the maximum request rate in response. For example, if the maximum request rate is being exceeded, the maximum request rate may be raised or lowered, dependent on the current work throughput rate. If the target or committed work throughput rate is being exceeded, but the maximum request rate is not being exceeded, a lower maximum request rate may be proposed. Adjustments to the maximum request rate may be made using multiple incremental adjustments. Service request tokens may be added to a leaky token bucket at the maximum request rate.

Abstract: A thin-film magnetic head is constructed such that a main magnetic pole layer, a write shield layer, a gap layer, and a thin-film coil are laminated on a substrate. The thin-film magnetic head has a leading shield part opposing the main magnetic pole layer on the substrate side of the main magnetic pole layer, a substrate side shield part has contact with the leading shield part. The thin-film coil has a substrate side coil layer between the main magnetic pole layer and substrate. The spaces to the substrate about a leading lower end face of the leading shield part, a shield upper end face of the substrate side shield part, and coil upper end face of the substrate side coil layer are formed to be equal to each other. The depth of the leading shield part is formed to be smaller than the depth of the substrate side shield part.

Abstract: Described herein are systems, devices, and methods for content delivery on the Internet. In certain non-limiting embodiments, a caching model is provided that can support caching for indefinite time periods, potentially with infinite or relatively long time-to-live values, yet provide prompt updates when the underlying origin content changes. In one approach, an origin server can annotate its responses to content requests with tokens, e.g., placing them in an appended HTTP header or otherwise. The tokens can drive the process of caching, and can be used as handles for later invalidating the responses within caching proxy servers delivering the content. Tokens may be used to represent a variety of kinds of dependencies expressed in the response, including without limitation data, data ranges, or logic that was a basis for the construction of the response.

Abstract: Current source converters and control methods are presented for high dynamic performance by implementing a DC link current control loop parallel to one or more motor control loops, with a DC link current control command value for operating the current source rectifier being derived at least partially independent of the motor control command values, wherein certain implementations drive the current source rectifier to its maximum rated value, or the DC current command value can be set above an amount required by the current source inverter using a gain factor which can be fixed or can itself be adjusted based on one or more motor control error values for balancing as-needed dynamic performance and efficiency.

Abstract: A program operation for a set of non-volatile storage elements. A count is maintained of a number of program pulses which are applied to an individual storage element in a slow programming mode, and an associated bit line voltage is adjusted based on the count. Different bit line voltages can be used, having a common step size or different steps sizes. As a result, the change in threshold voltage of the storage element within the slow programming mode, with each program pulse can be made uniform, resulting in improved programming accuracy. Latches maintain the count of program pulses experienced by the associated storage element, while in the slow programming mode. The storage element is in a fast programming mode when its threshold voltage is below a lower verify level, and in the slow programming mode when its threshold voltage is between the lower verify level and a higher verify level.
