Abstract: A thermally-assisted magnetic recording head includes a main pole, a waveguide, a plasmon generator, and a heat sink. The heat sink includes a first metal layer, a second metal layer, and an intermediate layer. The intermediate layer is interposed between the first metal layer and the second metal layer. Each of the first and second metal layers is formed of a metal material. The intermediate layer is formed of a material that is higher in Vickers hardness than the metal material used to form the first metal layer and the metal material used to form the second metal layer.

Abstract: A system for detecting partial discharge in electrical components may include a control system that may operate a drive in an industrial automation system. The industrial automation system may include the electrical components being analyzed for partial discharge. The system may also include one or more acoustic sensors that may detect one or more acoustic waveforms generated within at least one of the electrical components. The system may also include a monitoring system that may receive the acoustic waveforms from the acoustic sensors and determine whether the one electrical component is experiencing partial discharge based on the acoustic waveforms. The monitoring system may then send a notification to the control system when the one electrical component is determined to be experiencing partial discharge, such that the notification indicates that the one electrical component is experiencing partial discharge.

Abstract: Methods and systems for multiplying varying cast numbers are described herein. By using information related to the inputs to be multiplied, a single multiplier module may be used to multiply many different type cast numbers. These systems and methods may reduce hardware costs and complexity, reduce size of the circuitry, and/or reduce the complexity of the logic, among many other benefits. These systems and methods may be used with in industrial controllers in and industrial environment.

The disconnect switch may receive alternating current (AC) power from an AC power supply, and the drive may then receive the AC power via the disconnect switch. The drive may include a processor that may communicatively couple to the disconnect switch. As such, the processor may control a drive operation that corresponds to the drive and control a disconnect operation that corresponds to the disconnect switch.

Abstract: A HRG ground fault detector and method for detecting a ground fault in a High Resistance Ground (HRG) system are provided. The HRG ground fault detector in one example embodiment includes a first input A coupled to a first phase PHA of the HRG system, a second input B coupled to a second phase PHB, and a third input C coupled to a third phase PHC, with the HRG ground fault detector generating a simulated neutral voltage VN? from the first phase PHA, the second phase PHB, and the third phase PHC, wherein the simulated neutral voltage VN? comprises a zero voltage potential when the first phase PHA, the second phase PHB, and the third phase PHC are equal, comparing the simulated neutral voltage VN? to a predetermined fault voltage threshold, and detecting a HRG ground fault if the simulated neutral voltage VN? exceeds the threshold.

Abstract: Methods and systems consistent with the present invention provide an improved sample-rate converter that overcomes the limitations of conventional sample-rate converters. The improved system comprises a simple asynchronous sample-rate converter and synchronous sample-rate converter. The output of the simple asynchronous sample-rate converter is connected to the input of the synchronous sample-rate converter. In an alternative embodiment, the output of the synchronous sample-rate converter is connected to the input of the simple asynchronous sample-rate converter.

Abstract: A data storage device includes a non-volatile memory that includes a three-dimensional (3D) memory. A method includes receiving first data and second data from a host device. A first error-correcting code (ECC) codeword associated with the first data is written to a first word line of the non-volatile memory, and a second ECC codeword associated with the second data is written to a second word line of the non-volatile memory. The first ECC codeword includes a first bit and a second bit, and the second ECC codeword includes a third bit and a fourth bit. The method further includes writing parity information to a parity storage portion of the non-volatile memory that is distinct from the first word line and from the second word line. The parity information includes a parity bit that is based on the first bit, the second bit, the third bit, and the fourth bit.

In an embodiment, a method for bit loading for optical DMT transmission or reception includes receiving, at a processor, a bit data stream, wherein the bit data stream comprises a plurality of subcarriers; assigning, with the processor, a code rate to each of a plurality of forward error correction (FEC) encoders/decoders according to a mapping of a signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) to a code rate for each of the subcarriers or subcarrier groups, wherein each FEC encoder/decoder corresponds to a respective one of the subcarriers or a respective subcarrier group; and assigning, with the processor, a modulation format to each subcarrier or each subcarrier group according to a mapping of an SNR for each subcarrier or subcarrier group to a bit number for a corresponding subcarrier or subcarrier group.

Abstract: A variety of methods for fabricating organic photovoltaic-based electricity-generating military aircraft fuselage surfaces are described. In particular, a method for fabricating curved electricity-generating military aircraft fuselage surfaces utilizing lamination of highly flexible organic photovoltaic films is described. High-throughput and low-cost fabrication options also allow for economical production.

Abstract: A technique for identification using video analytics together with inertial sensor data is described. The technique includes capturing video of an environment and tracking particular users in the captured video. Motion signals are received from at least one inertial sensor of at least one mobile communication device being carried by a user. The video motion of each tracked user in the captured video and the motion signals of each mobile communication device are correlated in order to associate one of the mobile communication devices with a particular tracked user in the video.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for filtering air in residential and commercial applications is described herein. The air filter may have a support frame which secures to the intake grille of an HVAC system. A filter media may be placed in the support frame to filter air as it passes through the air filter. The filter media may be replaced when the filter media becomes too dirty to effectively filter air. The dirty filter media may be removed from the frame and a new clean media may be replaced in the frame.

Abstract: Described are techniques and systems for service discovery on a network. A media device on the network generates a signature indicative of a particular set of one or more services available for execution on the media device. The signature may be distributed on the network using beacon transmissions from the media device. A receiving media device compares the signature with previously stored service data which associates signatures with service sets. The stored service data may include a local signature indicative of a local service set. Determinations of a match result in the receiving media device using the previously stored data. Unmatched signatures may result in the receiving media device sending a request for service set data. The received service set data may then be used to provide service availability information. The received service set data and associated signature may be added to the stored service data.
