Abstract: At least one coded binary audio flux organized into frames is created from digital audio signals which were coded by transforming them from the time domain into the frequency domain. Transform coefficients of the signals in the frequency domain are quantized and coded according to a set of quantizers. The set is determined from a set of values extracted from the signals. The values make up selection parameters of the set of quantizers. The parameters are also present in the frames. A partial decoding state decodes then dequantizes transform coefficients produced by the coding based on a set of quantizers determined from the selection parameters contained in the frames of the coded binary audio flux or of each coded binary audio flux. The partially decoded frames are subjected to processing in the frequency domain. The thus-processed frames are then made available for use in a later utilization step.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method for continuously controlling the quality of distributed digital sounds broadcast by radio or television on a digital channel. The method consists in temporally breaking down the digital signal into sequences of samples; carrying out a spectral analysis of each sequence to observe the variations in energy and envelope of the digital signal and calculating a global quality index; and in calculating on the basis of the global quality index, a final gated and continuous quality index representing the quality of the digital signals. The invention is applicable to the continuous control of the quality of distributed sounds.

Abstract: A method of representing the effects on a received signal of a radio communications channel having L paths with a reduced computational effort is achieved by transforming a representation of the channel into a simplified representation. Each path of the radio communications channel has an average attenuation and a pre-determined respective delay. The received signal includes a combination of correlated components determined from an effect of pulse shaping filters on the received signal, each component being correlated with respect to each of the other components represented by a plurality of correlation coefficients. The method comprises generating a plurality of complex zero mean gaussian random variables each having a pre-determined variance, and summing the variables, to form a representation of the signal received via the radio communications channel.

Abstract: A paging system separately transmits high capacity data through at least two paging channels of limited transmission rates in order to provide the high capacity data in real-time. A pager receives and processes the paging frequency signal transmitted through at least two channels, thereby generating regenerated data not to be separated.
Abstract: An asymmetrical cryptographic method of protecting an electronic chip against fraud in transactions between the electronic chip and an application, involving calculating an authentication value V from input parameters in the electronic chip. The chip produces a pseudo-random number r specific to the transaction by means of a serial pseudo-random generator included in the chip. The chip sends the application a parameter x calculated by the application prior to the transaction, linked to the random number r by a mathematical relationship, and stored in a data memory of the chip. The chip calculates a parameter y constituting the whole or a portion of the authentication value V by means of a serial function whose input parameters are at least the random number r specific to the transaction and a private key s belonging to an asymmetrical pair of keys.
Abstract: A method of classifying data in a descending hierarchy, in which each datum is associated with particular initial values for attributes that are common to the data, the method comprising recursive steps of subdividing data sets. During each step of subdividing a set, discrete attribute values are calculated from the particular initial attribute values of the data of said set, and said set is subdivided into subsets as a function of the discrete values.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for tracking location of synchronous and asynchronous mobile communication network subscribers by using a dual stack home location register and a dual stack mobile positioning center. When the dual stack mobile positioning center externally receives a location tracking request for a subscriber, it requests reception subscriber information to the dual stack home location register, confirms whether the terminal is located in a synchronous or asynchronous mobile communication network by referring to the reception subscriber information from the dual stack home location register and network information, and requests location tracking for the terminal to the corresponding mobile communication network. Accordingly, location of the synchronous and asynchronous mobile communication network subscribers can be tracked in the network in which mobile communication networks using different protocols coexist.

Abstract: A method of transmitting signals along a communication path, by a first compression/decompression unit, which method comprises receiving first signals from a first direction along the path, determining based on the received first signals whether a second decompression unit is located along the path in the first direction, receiving second signals from a second direction. In the case it is determined that a second decompression unit is located along the path in the first direction, selecting a compressed or decompressed format for transmission of the second signals responsive to at least one additional parameter, such that the determination that a second decompression unit is located along the path in the first direction does not always bring about selecting the compressed format. Then, the second signals are transmitted in the selected format.

A system with the fuzzy channel allocation controller is provided, and a threshold for allowing a call entering into the system is adaptively adjusted according to system condition so that the calls are sustained in a predetermined quality. Furthermore, in allocating channels, the loads of the macro cell and micro cells are balanced so that the system has a higher channel utility. This system having a macro cell and a plurality of micro cells which includes a base station interface module, a resource estimator, and a performance estimator and a fuzzy channel allocation processor.
Abstract: A spectroscopic ellipsometer comprising a light source (1) emitting a light beam, a polarizer (2) placed on the path of the light beam emitted by the light source, a sample support (9) receiving the light beam output from the polarizer, a polarization analyzer (3) for passing the beam reflected by the sample to be analyzed, a detection assembly which receives the beam from the analyzer and which comprises a monochromator (5) and a photodetector (4), and signal processor means (6) for processing the signal output from said detection assembly, and including counting electronics (13). Cooling means (12) keep the detection assembly at a temperature below ambient temperature, thereby minimizing detector noise so as to remain permanently under minimum photon noise conditions.
