Abstract: A video teleconferencing system uses digital transcoding to obtain algorithm transcoding, transmission rate matching, and spatial mixing. The video teleconferencing system comprises a multipoint control unit (MCU) for allowing multiple audiovisual terminals, which send and receive compressed digital data signals, to communicate with each other in a conference. The MCU has a video processing unit (VPU) that performs algorithm transcoding, rate matching, and spatial mixing among the terminals within a conference. The VPU includes a time division multiplex pixel bus and a plurality of processors. Each processor is assignable to an audiovisual terminal in the conference and is coupled to the pixel bus. In a receive mode, each processor receives and decodes compressed video signals from its assigned terminal and puts the decoded signal onto the pixel bus. In a transmit mode, each processor receives from the pixel bus uncompressed video signals from any terminal in the conference.

Abstract: A geolocation system for geolocating a mobile transceiver operating in a CDMA communication system is disclosed having improved time of arrival extraction which allows the extracting of time of arrival information of weak CDMA emissions. The improved time of arrival extraction is accomplished by breaking the received CDMA emission into M identical processing stages. Each stage performs despreading/demodulating at over sampled chip offsets from the next processing stage. The P-point fast Fourier transform of the M stages is taken and in effect a two dimensional time versus frequency cross ambiguity function is created. The peak of the function may be interpolated to create an accurate estimate of the time of arrival of the emission from the mobile transceiver, thus improving the accuracy of time of arrival measurements and adjusting for doppler frequency shifts that may otherwise corrupt the measurements when integrating over a long period of time.

Abstract: A method, system and computer software product for managing jitter buffering that accurately measures network latency, the variation in latency (also known as jitter), and efficiently manages the media packet stream and jitter buffers is disclosed. A framer time-stamps incoming packets. A traffic analyzer maintains a sliding window of statistics generated from a recent set of packets. A jitter manager monitors packets, receives and makes adjustments based on information received from the traffic analyzer, and manages any connected jitter buffers.
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for the animation, driven by an audio signal, of a synthesised human face model are described, that allow the animation of any model complying with the ISO/IEC standard 14496 (“MPEG-4 standard”). The concerned phonemes are derived from the audio signal, and the corresponding visemes are identified within a set comprising both visemes defined by the standard and visemes typical of the language. Visemes are split into macroparameters that define shape and positions of the mouth and jaw of the model and that are associated to values indicating a difference from a neutral position. Such macroparameters are then transformed into face animaton parameters complying with the standard, the values of which define the deformation to be applied to the model in order to achieve animation.
Abstract: A circuit-board antenna has a standing wave resonance which is utilized to extend the radiation end of a dipole antenna as its radiation length, e.g. (n+¼) times the wavelength. Half the wavelength in the radiation direction of the dipole antenna is designed to be twisted, the radiation from which cancels with itself, resulting in a radiation gain in the radiation direction. A circuit board is used to make such a dipole antenna. It can conveniently achieve the goal of self cancellation for radiation from the twisty part. The radiation orientation of the antenna can be adjusted to be upward or downward by modifying the extension length between the radiation end and the ground end of the dipole antenna.
Abstract: The invention discloses a cyclic generator of enabling/disabling signals (EG) adapted to convert an incoming data stream having a bit rate RI into an outgoing data stream having a bit rate R2, wherein R1≅mR2/n , m<n, m and n—integers being parameters of said EG selected to provide m enable signals per n clocks of the bit rate R2, wherein the EG is characterized by having a number of internal states <n and being capable of generating periodic enabling/disabling output signals such that the disable signals are optimally distributed among the enable signals.

Abstract: The present invention is related to a method for fabricating a surface-emitting laser diode with a metal reflector. It is mainly the use of a combination of a metal reflector and wafer bonding technology to replace the traditional epiwafer process or high-temperature high-pressure wafer bonding technology in fabricating VCSEL Bragg Reflector. The metal reflector has high reflectance with its material selected to form ohmic contact with VCSEL material. Besides, the substrate for the metal reflector can be selected for cheap price and good heat dissipation. Further advantages include simple process, low production cost and good VCSEL characteristic etc.
