Abstract: A power supply system for uninterruptedly sensitive equipment having a supply interface with a local power line, e.g., of 230V/50 Hz. It has downstream of a high voltage/low voltage transformation station, a direct connection towards at least one Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), enabling elimination of the Normal/Standby switch between the local electric network and a replacement source. The UPS, which comprises batteries in parallel and a quick switching device (t<20 ms), automatically ensures the launching (or triggering) of the standby source in case of breakdown of the local electric power supply network. Reciprocally a standby source, which is directly coupled with the UPS batteries, delivers the direct current required for maintaining the charge of said batteries.

The system and method connects potentially incompatible IP networks (e.g., ATM, Frame Relay, etc.) to a single backbone operated by a CX provider. The barter-like system and method is mutually beneficial to all participants by providing low cost to originating gateways and additional revenue for terminating gateways in the form of increased minutes.
Abstract: A methodology of creating integrated circuits with improved noise isolation is presented. The circuitry of an integrated circuits is separated into noise generating circuit blocks and noise sensitive circuit blocks. N-type and P-type diffusion guard rings are placed around each of the circuit blocks. Substantially overlying the N-type and P-type diffusion guard rings are power supply meshes which are intimately in contract with the guard rings below through spaced apart vias. The power supply meshes not only supply power for the circuit blocks, but also reverse-bias the diffusion guard rings for improved noise isolation.

Abstract: A method for the deposition of a coating layer on an optical fiber while it is being drawn. The coating layer is designed to reduce the permeability of the optical fiber to water vapor and therefore to increase its lifetime. The method is characterized in that it consists in carrying out a decomposition of a gas mixture of boron halogenide and hydrogen and/or boron halogenide and ammonia gas by a microwave plasma-assisted addition of energy and in that the operation is conducted in the presence of a carrier gas in order firstly to carry the gas mixture to a reaction medium and secondly to activate the plasma.

Abstract: The process comprises the following steps:
a) pretreatment of a surface of the substrate by means of a cold gas plasma at low or medium pressure in order to clean the said surface;
b) growth, from the said cleaned surface of the substrate, of a nitride barrier layer by means of a cold gas plasma made up of an N2/H2 mixture at low or medium pressure; and
c) deposition, on the nitride barrier layer, of a Ta2O5 dielectric layer by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) or plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD).
Abstract: A digital camera with rotatable components is disclosed. In the front of camera there is provided a lens, a flash, and a viewfinder, while in the rear thereof there is provided a liquid crystal display (LCD) corresponding to lens, a control button, and the rear of viewfinder. Control button is operable to press for rotating lens, flash, viewfinder, and LCD in the same direction and into a desired angle with respect to an object. Next a shutter button on the camera is operable to press for taking a picture. This camera has the benefits of ergonomic, precise picture taking, and full covering of the object by flash.
Abstract: The telecommunications network has access switches and at least one nominal data base for mobile subscribers capable of accessing the network via several of the access switches. Each of the access switches has a table containing service data relating to fixed subscribers having terminals permanently connected thereto. The nominal data base contains, for each of the mobile subscribers, service data having the same nature as the service data relating to the fixed subscribers and mobility management data. The service data table of each access switch via which mobile subscribers can access the network receives, in addition to the service data relating to the fixed subscribers, service data relating to the mobile subscribers connected to the network via said access switch, which have been uploaded from the nominal data base during procedures to locate said mobile subscribers with the access switch.

Abstract: A coaxial-based communication system connects network-side xDSL services to xDSL CPE devices and avoids interference from a noise spectrum that is degrading to xDSL performance or emission compliance on either the network or customer premises sides on the NID. The system provides an NID and a CPE interface device at the two ends of the coaxial wiring to perform a spectral relocation of the xDSL signal to a lower noise frequency band than is used for the xDSL service. Interfaces to the system are industry standard xDSL, POTS, and CATV services, while the transport medium is the normal coaxial type wiring and CATV splitters found on the customer premise.

Abstract: A process provides for searching through a written text in response to a spoken question comprising a plurality of words. The first step in the process is to transcribe the written text into a first sequence of phonetic units. Then, a spoken question is segmented into a second sequence of phonetic units. The search is conducted through the written text for an occurrence of the spoken question. The search comprises aligning the first and second sequences of phonetic units.
Abstract: A method for the time synchronization of a multi-carrier signal receiver consisting of a sequence of symbols each formed by a plurality of carrier frequencies. Each carrier frequency is modulated by a modulation coefficient. The position of some of said carrier frequencies in the time-frequency space is known to the receiver, and said frequencies are reference carrier frequencies. Each reference carrier frequency bears a reference coefficient with a value that is known to the receiver. The method includes a fine synchronization step, wherein the signal transmission channel impulse response is estimated on the basis of reference coefficients belonging to at least two received symbols. The beginning of the useful portion of each of the symbols is determined, and/or a receiver clock is controlled by analyzing the estimate of said impulse response.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for selecting a combination of transport formats for a composite channel comprising at least two transport channels in a mobile station. The invention finds its application most particularly in third-generation mobile telecommunication systems (UMTS). To prevent the quality of service of certain applications from being considerably degraded when combinations of transport formats become temporarily invalid, there is provision to select according to the invention a combination of transport formats making it possible to guarantee a minimum bit rate for each logical channel of the mobile station.
