  • Patent number: 6137806
Abstract: In an intelligent network comprising a plurality of Service Signalling Points (SSP) and a Service Control Point (SCP), improved handling of overload conditions at the Service Control Point is provided by means of a Network Signalling Point interposed between the SSPs and the SCP. The Network Signalling Point (NSP) has a store for storing a copy of each message the NSP sends to various Point Codes, including that of the SCP; and service software for monitoring its links based upon associated Point Codes. If the NSP does not receive, within a preset time period, a response to a message sent to a particular destination Point Code via a particular link that is intact, the service software module will retrieve the stored copy of the message, replace the original destination Point Code with an alternative Point Code, and route the modified message to the alternative Point Code.

  • Patent number: 6138024
Abstract: A method of selecting allocated communication channels for use by a cellular auxiliary personal communication system (CAPCS) comprising periodically collecting relative signal strength indication (RSSI) measurements for all allocated communication channels, periodically determining the estimated expected probability of non-interference for each allocated communication channel based on the relative signal strength indication measurements and selecting an available allocated communication channel having the highest estimated expected probability of non-interference for use by the CAPCS system. The relative signal strength indication measurements are made on the allocated communication channels by measuring the signal on the allocated communication channel when no call is being carried by the CAPCS on that channel.

  • Patent number: 6138132
Abstract: A high speed ROM-based Nyquist FIR filter which is capable of enhancing a modulation speed without increasing the operational frequency of the filter by overcoming the problems encountered in the conventional digital modulation ROM-based FIR filter. Therefore, it is possible to increase the modulation speed by the interpolation ratio without increasing the operational frequency of the filter compared to the method of using a conventional FIR filter using one ROM. Accordingly, the high speed ROM-based Nyquist FIR filter according to the present invention is well adaptive to the modulation FIR filter of a broadband digital communication which requires a high speed data processing capability.

  • Patent number: 6129865
Abstract: A method of ferrules used in an optical connector for connection and short-circuit of making multichannel optical signals. Heretofore, many fiber receiving holes have been arranged along a line at regular intervals with tolerance amounting to less than 1 micron. 10 and connect two ferrules, a precisely processed cylindrical metal guide pin under 1 micron, precise pitches formed in ferrules and a metal pin guide hole are used, Consequently, it has been necessary to maintain a high degree of precision. The present invention maintains a high degree of precision by reverse direction connection dependent merely on a predetermined height a reference plane. The reference plane is formed by relatively easy plane processing as the method of maintaining precise height and directivity of flow is added to the inside of a mold.

  • Patent number: 6128335
Abstract: A high speed software modem is described which uses a selectable, desirable portion of the total available bandwidth of a transmission channel. In a preferred embodiment, the invention is implemented in a personal computer connected to an upstream transceiver through a channel supporting an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Loop (ADSL) standard. The achievable target data rate of the modem is based on the capabilities of an analog front end (AFE) used in the modem, and a host processor within such personal computer. In particular, the modem AFE contains subband filtering which causes an upstream transceiver to use only a selected number of available sub-channels for downstream data transmission. The data rate of the modem is increased by upgrading the AFE or the host processor in order to increase the number of processable transmitted downstream sub-channels.

  • Patent number: 6128348
Abstract: A process for optimizing the bit and energy configurations of data sub-channels in a multi-channel data transmission signal is disclosed. The inventive process is preferably embodied in an microcode routine executable by a high speed digital signal processor. The routine monitors, analyzes and stores sub-channel signal-to-noise characteristics, determines theoretical bit capacity loadings, evaluates power performance margins, and optimizes sub-channel configurations based on a series of iterative calculations intended to maximize the overall system power performance margin for any given target data rate. Alternatively, for a given power performance margin, the achieved data rate can be maximized. To achieve these results, a number of non-zero bit sub-channels (N.sub.CH) are remembered from iteration to iteration, which results in a more optimal loading of the sub-channels. A unique new approach is also disclosed for deciding which of the sub-channels should be disabled to have a zero bit loading.

  • Patent number: 6125445
Abstract: A process for the identification of a claimant by a verifier. The process is of the public key type, where the public exponent is equal to 3. The claimant draws at random a first exponent .alpha., calculates r=g.sup..alpha. mod n and transmits R=r.sup.3. The verifier draws at random a second exponent .beta., calculates t=g.sup..beta. mod n, calculates T=t.sup.3 mod n and h=H.sub.1 (Z), where H.sub.1 is a hash function, and calculates Z=R.sup.3 mod n. The verifier transmits to the claimant the numbers T and h. The claimant calculates Y=T.sup..alpha. mod n, verifies the result H.sub.1 (Y), calculates H=H.sub.2 (Y), where H.sub.2 is another hash function, calculates z=rS mod n, and transmits z and H. The claimant also has a secret number S equal to the modulo n cubic root of a number I deduced from its identity so that the number S verifies S.sup.3 =I mod n. The verifier verifies that H received is equal to H.sub.2 (Z) and that z.sup.3 is equal to RI mod n.

  • Patent number: 6123551
Abstract: An electronic circuit interconnection method and apparatus involves mating a first circuit substrate with a second circuit substrate such that a projection of a circuit component mounted on at least one of the first and second circuit substrates is received in an opening in the other. The opening has a shape complementary to the projection, to register the first and second circuit substrates in a fixed orientation relative to each other in which contacts on the first circuit substrate are aligned and adjacent corresponding contacts on the second circuit substrate. The first and second circuit substrates are then clamped together to press the contacts on each substrate toward each other to place and maintain them in contact with each other.

  • Patent number: 6124960
Abstract: In a WDM transmission system carrying amplitude modulated traffic in which significant cross-phase modulation occurs, each of the individual channels is pre-chirped at the transmitter with replicas, or low-pass filtered replicas of the amplitude modulation applied to each of the other channels. • Patent number: 6122763
Abstract: The bits transmitted are coded according to the product of at least two systematic block codes. Iterative decoding is applied in order to determine, at each code word search step, a data matrix ({R}) and a decision matrix ({D}) used for the following step. The new decision matrix is determined at each step by decoding the lines or columns of the input matrix, and the new data matrix is determined taking into account the correction terms which increase the reliability of the decoding on each iteration. The coding and decoding circuits (17) are rendered programmable by a shortening technique allowing selection of the number k-X of non-redundant information bits per block to be coded. Known values are assigned to the other bits, the positions of which are uniformly distributed according to each dimension of the matrices.

  • Patent number: 6122507
Abstract: Following a call set-up request emitted by a terminal of a given user of a telecommunications system using a constellation of non-geostationary satellites, the terminal reserves a channel in the cell in which it is located and in neighboring cells not including all the cells it will have to cross during a predetermined time period. For each cell where a channel has not been reserved, the given user's terminal waits until it is at a predetermined distance from its point of handover into the cell, equal to the greatest distance a user can travel in the cell, before transmitting a reservation request. The call set-up request is accepted only if a condition relating to the number of other users near the given user at the time of the call set-up request is satisfied.
