  • Patent number: 12377415
Abstract: Provided is photoactivated selective release (or PHASR) of droplets from a microwell array enabled by a photoresponsive polymer layer integrated into the microfluidic device. This photoresponsive layer is placed in between a microwell array that traps a large number of droplets and a monolithic flow chamber that can be used for recovery. By using focused light, the photoresponsive layer can either be punctured or induced to create local heating to selectively release droplets. The type of photoacoustic dye and the physical properties of the photoresponsive layer can be engineered to induce either puncture of the membrane or pushing of droplets out of the microwells with low thermal impact on the droplets. This approach has broad application in the field of soft lithography-based microfluidic devices for various applications including photoresponsive valves as well as high throughput single cell sequencing.

  • Patent number: 12378290
Abstract: Methods for synthesizing nanowires are provided. Modified PilA peptides are used as peptide building blocks for synthesizing the nanowires. The method places the peptide building blocks in an assembly buffer with a hydrophobe. Addition of a hydrophobe and molecular crowding by evaporation of the assembly buffer triggers the self-assembly of the peptide building blocks into fibers. Multiple elongation cycles of addition of peptide building blocks, mixing and evaporation are conducted to promote elongation of the fibers and synthesis of nanowires. Electronic characterization of the synthesized nanowires is provided.

  • Patent number: 12380139
Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include computer-implemented methods and systems that can efficiently generate highly relevant recommended search terms to clinicians. A hybrid collaborative filtering model recommends search terms for a specific patient to the clinician. The model draws on information from patients' clinical encounters and the searches that were performed during the clinical encounters. To generate recommendations, the model uses search terms which are (1) frequently co-occurring with the ICD codes recorded for the patient and (2) highly relevant to the most recent search terms. One variation of the model uses only the most recent ICD codes assigned to the patient. Another variation uses all ICD codes. Comprehensive experiments of embodiments of the methods and systems have demonstrate high levels of performance.

  • Patent number: 12379251
Abstract: A self-calibrating hybrid spectrophotometer comprises a receptacle for receiving the cuvette, first and second optodes that are configured to permit light to enter the cuvette, third and fourth optodes that are configured to permit light to leave the cuvette, and a controller that is configured to control delivery of light to one of the first and second optodes. Light entering one of the first and second optodes is received at the third and fourth optodes after having interacted with the turbid sample along different paths having different lengths. Measurements made at the third and fourth optodes in response to having illuminated both the first and second source optodes provide two slopes of optical transmittance as a function of path length. The spectrophotometer uses these slopes to identify a slope that is indicative of the absorption coefficient and the reduced scattering coefficient of the sample.
