Patent number: 6110325Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided in which a vaporizer vaporizes a liquid feed for introduction to a feed conversion unit such as a steam active reformer. A condenser condenses vaporized feed from the vaporizer when introduction of feed to the feed conversion unit is stopped. Condensed, liquid feed is passed back into the vaporizer and is conserved rather than going to flare.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1997Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Assignee: Krupp UHDE GmbHInventor: Martin K. Patent number: 6007707Abstract: Process for the recovery of pure hydrocarbons from a hydrocarbon mixture, more particularly, a high aromatics content hydrocarbon mixture, by extractive distillation in an extractive distillation column. A first solvent feed for a first sub-flow of a selective solvent is provided between the top part of the column and the bottom part thereof. The selective solvent used is an N-substituted morpholine. Substantially non-aromatics are withdrawn as the raffinate from the head of the extractive distillation column and substantially aromatics and selective solvent are withdrawn as the extract from the sump of the extractive distillation column. A second sub-flow of the selective solvent is introduced via a second solvent feed in the top part of the column above the first solvent feed. The quantity of solvent supplied with the second sub-flow constitutes less than 50% of the total quantity of solvent.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1997Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignee: Krupp Uhde GmbHInventors: Stefan Donnermeyer, Jurgen Ludolph, Hans-Jurgen Vollmer

Patent number: 5407060Abstract: A resonant vibrating conveyer is disclosed which has a vibratory drive and spring supports connecting the trough with an intermediate frame which is, in turn, attached to a foundation via springs. The forces transmitted to the foundation are reduced to a minimum while permitting a relatively light-weight construction of the conveyer. This is achieved by arranging first pre-loaded springs with countervibrating masses acting at the point of attachment of second pre-loaded springs between the conveyer trough and the intermediate frame.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1993Date of Patent: April 18, 1995Assignee: Uhde GmbHInventor: Manfred Kreft

Patent number: 5153015Abstract: A process and apparatus for extracting ingredient substances from natural products by means of a pressurized fluid, particularly for decaffeinating tea leaves by means of carbon dioxide, wherein the ingredient substances are bound by an adsorbent, preferably activated carbon. The fluid is conducted through a product layer, the thickness of which in flow direction is small in comparision with that transversely of the flow direction and the fluid is passed through the product layer with changing, especially increasing, velocity. The apparatus includes a cylindrical high-pressure vessel with annular cylindrical baskets for accommodating the natural product and/or the adsorbent, and the gas flows from a cylindrical outer range to a cylindrical inner range. The time required for the treatment of leafy natural product is reduced, the flow paths of the fluid are shortened, thus diminishing the risk of clogging, and the fluid flow velocity is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1991Date of Patent: October 6, 1992Assignee: Uhde GmbHInventors: Peter Theissing, Peter Saamer, Jorg-Peter Korner

Patent number: 5110564Abstract: A device for accommodating catalyst in particular a primary and a secondary catalyst in the production of synthesis gas in an auto-thermal reformer has the primary catalyst being accommodated in a plurality of catalyst tubes, providing an optimal, and above all, compact design, guaranteeing sustained optimum gas flow and expansion properties in the context of an overall exothermic reaction. This is achieved in that each individual primary catalyst tube (11) correlates with an individual secondary catalyst and that the primary catalyst tube (11) continues in the form of a narrow feed tube (11a) that extends through the respective secondary catalyst (13).Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1989Date of Patent: May 5, 1992Assignee: Uhde GmbHInventor: Hans-Joachim Herbort

Patent number: 5053210Abstract: A process and an apparatus for the purification of gases, particularly for the desulphurization of and NO.sub.x -elimination from flue gas by multistage adsorption and catalytic reaction in gravity-flow moving beds of granular, carbon-bearing materials contacted by a transverse steam of the gas, in which a minimum of two moving beds are arranged in series with reference to the gas route so that NO.sub.x -elimination takes place in the second or any downstream moving bed. Where large volumes of flue gas from industrial furnaces must be purified, purification is adversely affected by the formation of gas streaks with widely varying sulphur dioxide concentrations. This disadvantage is eliminated in that the prepurified flue gas leaving the first moving bed and having a locally variable sulphur dioxide concentration gradient is subjected to repeated mixing before ammonia is added as reactant for NO.sub.x -elimination.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1988Date of Patent: October 1, 1991Assignee: UHDE GmbHInventors: Michael Buxel, Friedrich-Wilhelm Pietzarka, Horst Thieme, Manfred Koch

Patent number: 4970806Abstract: Bulk material containing vaporizable ingredients, such as lignite, hard coal, peat, waste wood, clarifier sludge, waste sludge, contaminated earth, catalysts, zeolites and filter cake, is conditioned by means of a vibrating plate conveyor divided into a heating section and a drying section, using an indirect heat exchange method. The bulk material is heated in an enclosed heating section while withdrawing the vapor from this section. In the downstream enclosed drying section, the vaporizable fractions contained in the bulk material are further reduced with the aid of heat supplied indirectly, the vapor being withdrawn. The bulk material is separated several times into coarse and fine fractions utilizing at least one slotted grid, the fines being immediately recycled and remixed with the coarse fractions which have a higher water content. The bulk material is mixed several times while being heated in the drying section before discharge.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1988Date of Patent: November 20, 1990Assignee: UHDE GmbHInventors: Harmut Hederer, Manfred Kreft, Wolfgang Hillebrand

Patent number: 4957720Abstract: A process for the generation of mechanical energy in the ammonia oxidation step of process for the production of nitric acid is disclosed, whereby the utilization of process heat is improved, particularly the exploitation of heat contained in NO.sub.x gases and including process heat recovered at low temperature. The process involves evaporating and superheating liquid ammonia upstream of the oxidation step, at a pressure which is a multiple of the pressure required for the combustion, using the process heat of the NO.sub.x gases formed during the the combustion and then expanding the superheated ammonia in a turbine, thus generating mechanical energy.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1990Date of Patent: September 18, 1990Assignee: UHDE GmbHInventors: Karl W. Patent number: 4880603Abstract: The invention relates to a reactor for industrial plants, e.g. for an ammonia synthesis plant, comprising several catalyst beds in series charged by a radial gas flow. The object is to provide for a uniform gas flow through the catalyst bed along its entire height, otherwise different space velocities are experienced within the catalyst bed involving irregularities in the reaction. The problem is solved when the cross-section of the annular space for the effluent reaction gas flowing in axial direction is equal to or larger than the cross-section of the annular space for the influent fresh gas flowing in axial direction.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1988Date of Patent: November 14, 1989Assignee: UHDE GmbHInventor: Friedrich Forster
