    Abstract: Process for enhanced metal recovery from, for example, metal-containing feedstock using liquid and/or supercritical fluid carbon dioxide and a source of oxidation. The oxidation agent can be free of complexing agent. The metal-containing feedstock can be a mineral such as a refractory mineral. The mineral can be an ore with high sulfide content or an ore rich in carbonaceous material. Waste can also be used as the metal-containing feedstock. The metal-containing feedstock can be used which is not subjected to ultrafine grinding. Relatively low temperatures and pressures can be used. The metal-containing feedstock can be fed into the reactor at a temperature below the critical temperature of the carbon dioxide, and an exotherm from the oxidation reaction can provide the supercritical temperature. The oxidant can be added to the reactor at a rate to maintain isothermal conditions in the reactor. Minimal amounts of water can be used as an extractive medium.

    Abstract: Methods of fabricating devices vial selective laser etching are provided. The methods can include selective laser etching of a portion of a metal layer, e.g. using a laser light source having a wavelength of 1,000 nm to 1,500 nm. The methods can be used to fabricate a variety of features, including an electrode, an interconnect, a channel, a reservoir, a contact hole, a trench, a pad, or a combination thereof. A variety of devices fabricated according to the methods are also provided. In some aspects, capacitive humidity sensors are provided that can be fabricated according to the provided methods. The capacitive humidity sensors can be fabricated with intricate electrodes, e.g. having a fractal pattern such as a Peano curve, a Hilbert curve, a Moore curve, or a combination thereof.

The gel can be transparent or colored, has a homogeneous texture and a soft to rigid structure, and contains volatile or gaseous components from 0 vol % to 85 vol % for scented materials (fragrance and oils) and/or 0-8000 ppm of disinfectant, which are released at a steady rate under ambient conditions, controlled by the shape and opening of the gel container. Botanicals or plastic decorations may be added into the gel to improve its aesthetic appeal. The preparation method is easier and requires less energy consumption and the gel is used as an air freshener or disinfectant.

    Abstract: Disclosed is an Arabic optical character recognition method using Hidden Markov Models and decision trees, comprising: receiving an input image containing Arabic text, removing all diacritics from the input image by detecting a bounding box of each diacritic and comparing coordinates thereof to those of a bounding box of a text body, segmenting the input image into four layers, and conducting feature extraction on the segmented four layers, inputting results of feature extraction into a Hidden Markov Model thereby generating HMM models for representing each Arabic character, conducting iterative training of the HMM models until an overall likelihood criterion is satisfied, and inputting results of iterative training into a decision tree thereby predicting locations and the classes of the diacritics and producing final recognition results. The invention is capable of facilitating simple recognition of Arabic by utilizing writing feature thereof, and meanwhile featuring comparatively high recognition precision.

The low-pH controlled-release intelligent corrosion inhibitor comprises a hydrogel with low pH responsiveness and a corrosion inhibiting substance having the capacity of corrosion inhibition. That is, a corrosion inhibiting substance is wrapped in a low-pH sensitive hydrogel. The swelling degree of the pH sensitive hydrogel may be changed according to the amounts of monomers and crosslinking agents so as to control the releasing speed of the corrosion inhibiting substance. By the soaking experiment and the measurements of electrochemical polarization curves and alternating impedance spectra, the sensitive and long-lasting features of the low-pH controlled-release intelligent corrosion inhibitor are indicated.
