Abstract: Photovoltaic devices with very high breakdown voltages are described herein. Typical commercial silicon photovoltaic devices have breakdown voltages below 50-100 volts (V). Even though such devices have bypass diodes to prevent photovoltaic cells from going into breakdown, the bypass diodes have high failure rates, leading to unreliable devices. A high-efficiency silicon photovoltaic cell is provided with very high breakdown voltages. By combining a device architecture with very low surface recombination and silicon wafers with high bulk resistivity (above 10 ohms centimeter (?-cm)), embodiments described herein achieve breakdown voltages close to 1000 V. These photovoltaic cells with high breakdown voltages improve the reliability of photovoltaic devices, while reducing their design complexity and cost.

Abstract: Methods, computing devices, and MRI systems that reduce artifacts produced by Maxwell gradient terms in TSE imaging using non-rectilinear trajectories are disclosed. With this technology, a RF excitation pulse is generated to produce transverse magnetization that generates a NMR signal and a series of RF refocusing pulses to produce a corresponding series of NMR spin-echo signals. An original encoding gradient waveform comprising a non-rectilinear trajectory is modified by adjusting a portion of the original encoding gradient waveform or introducing a zero zeroth-moment waveform segment at end(s) of the original encoding gradient waveform. During an interval adjacent to each of the series of RF refocusing pulses a first gradient pulse is generated. At least one of the first gradient pulses is generated according to the modified gradient waveform. An image is constructed from generated digitized samples of the NMR spin-echo signals obtained.

Abstract: Various embodiments of a vision-guided unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system to identify and collect foreign objects from the surface of a body of water are disclosed herein. A vision system and methodology has been developed to reduce reflections and glare from a water surface to better identify an object for removal. A linearized polarization filter and a specularity-removal algorithm is used to eliminate excessive reflection and glare. A contour-based detection algorithm is implemented for detecting the targeted objects on water surface. Further, the system includes a boundary layer sliding mode control (BLSMC) methodology to reduce and minimize position and velocity errors between the UAV and object in the presence of modeling and parameter uncertainties due to variation in a moving water surface.
