Abstract: Embodiments of a Flow Conditioning System (“FCS”) of this disclosure may be used for homogenizing a fluid containing a gas phase and a liquid phase. In some embodiments the FCS may be applied to a fluid containing hydrocarbons. The FCS may be located where appropriate, including but not limited to subsea. The FCS may be used for homogenizing slug flow. In embodiments, the FCS may be composed of an outer shroud pipe section, into which a concentric perforated smaller pipe is inserted at the top. The inlet slug flow regime is changed at the shroud section whereby the slugs are broken, transitioning to well-mixed flow regimes, such as bubbly flow or continuous churn flow. The bubbly or continuous churn flow that occur in the shroud section are forced to pass through the perforations of the perforated smaller diameter pipe, which promote a more thorough mixing of the phases upstream of devices such as multiphase pumps.
Abstract: This invention is directed to systems and methods that track a specified stored energy level profile for a BESS in a microgrid. The systems and methods including using a control algorithm that tracks the stored energy level profile for the BESS. The controller algorithm includes a Kalman Filter design for a model-based state reconstruction to overcome sensor/communication errors during real-time operation. The latter is important to guarantee the ability of the microgrid to continue its seamless operation during periods of erroneous sensor measurements or flawed communication.

Abstract: A method for predicting formation permeability by measuring diffusional tortuosity in several directions by pulse gradient NMR. The method comprises evaluating an anisotropic diffusion coefficient by pulsed gradient NMR, determining diffusional tortuosity from the restricted diffusion data, supplementing the NMR results with resistivity and sonic logging data, measuring anisotropic tortuosity and porosity by resistivity and sonic data and combining all components in a single fitting model. The 11-coefficient model is trained to recognize the true values of permeability by comparing the real oil permeabilities measured in a library of oil-carrying rock cores with the NMR, resistivity and sonic correlates. The fitting coefficients are extracted by minimizing the discrepancy between the laboratory measured permeabilities and the predicted values combining all rapid logging information components with the agreement-maximizing weights.

Abstract: Embodiments disclose a system for determining a sensitivity of a networked system. The system identifies a vertex (V) that represents a constituent and a state of the constituent, and an interaction (E) between at least two Vs. An interaction-dependent function provides a probability that, when a perturbation occurs, a V will be in a certain state given that it is currently in a determined state and its neighbors are currently in determined states. A network reliability is used to determine a probability that a V's state holds when a perturbation occurs. The system evaluates only a certain amount of terms in a Taylor series from a sample, and identifies interpolating polynomials between the Taylor series. A cost function optimizes a property of the networked system for a fixed cost. The system perturbs the networked system until reliability is zero to estimate a sensitivity of the networked system.

Abstract: A method of performing a ritual of chucking during Hajj includes an authentication process, a connectivity process which connects a remote user to a chucking system located at the religious site, and a notification process. The authentication process allows a remote user, who is preferably a pilgrim unable to attend Hajj due to physical disability, age or sickness, to connect to the chucking system. The connectivity allows the pilgrim to perform the ritual of chucking remotely. To do so, the chucking system includes a primary pebble reservoir providing pebbles to a set of secondary pebble reservoirs, and a set of pebble projecting units. The remote user remotely connects to the set of pebble projecting units to chuck pebbles at the stoning sites, wherein the required pebbles are stored in the set of secondary pebble reservoirs. When chucking is complete, the remote user is notified regarding completion.

Abstract: The disclosure provides fusion proteins useful for detecting and quantifying cyclic dinucleotides. The fusion proteins can comprise a functional cyclic dinucleotide binding domain linked to a first fluorescent domain and a second fluorescent domain. The first fluorescent domain and a second fluorescent domain can produce a detectable signal when brought into sufficiently close proximity, such as a FRET pair or split luciferase. The fusion protein can be used to assay the presence and/or concentration of cyclic dinucleotides in vitro or in a cell. The method of use include monitoring the cyclic dinucleotide activity, or activity of cyclic dinucleotide synthases. Furthermore, the methods can include screening compounds that may modulate cyclic dinucleotide activity, production, importation, and the like.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods, apparatuses, and computer programs for processing computed tomography images. Precise segmentation of the left atrium (LA) in computed tomography (CT) images constitutes a crucial preparatory step for catheter ablation in atrial fibrillation (AF). We aim to apply deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) to automate the LA detection/segmentation procedure and create a three-dimensional (3D) geometries. The deep learning provides an efficient and accurate way for automatic contouring and LA volume calculation based on the construction of the 3D LA geometry. Non-pulmonary vein (NPV) trigger has been reported as an important predictor of recurrence post atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation. Elimination of NPV triggers can reduce the post-ablation AF recurrence. The deep learning was applied in pre-ablation pulmonary vein computed tomography (PVCT) geometric slices to create a prediction model for NPV triggers in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF).
