Abstract: Rationally-designed LAGLIDADG meganucleases and methods of making such meganucleases are provided. In addition, methods are provided for using the meganucleases to generate recombinant cells and organisms having a desired DNA sequence inserted into a limited number of loci within the genome, as well as methods of gene therapy, for treatment of pathogenic infections, and for in vitro applications in diagnostics and research.

Abstract: The present invention provides production of hydroxylated fatty acid by a hydration reaction using a novel enzyme derived from Lactobacillus and using fatty acid as a substrate, and further, a production method of oxo fatty acid by an enzyme reaction or chemical oxidation reaction using the hydroxylated fatty acid as a substrate. In addition, a valuable novel rare fatty acid obtained by such production method is also provided.
Abstract: A solar energy powered Stirling duplex cooler is presented which includes a Stirling engine and a Stirling cooler. The Stirling engine drives the Stirling cooler to produce cold temperatures for refrigeration or air conditioning. The Stirling duplex cooler includes a solar concentrator to focus high temperature solar radiation upon the Stirling engine expansion space. The Stirling duplex cooler further includes a thermal storage tank to receive and store heat rejected from the cooler expansion space. This stored heat is used to operate the cooler at night. A flywheel connected operatively to engine and cooler expansion space pistons and a crankshaft connected operatively to engine and cooler compression space pistons actuate the pistons to move a working fluid between the expansion and compression spaces.
Abstract: Disclosed are a system for predicting optical properties of molecules based on machine learning and a method thereof. More particularly, the system for predicting optical properties according to an embodiment includes a preprocessor that receives molecular information of a target molecule and surrounding molecules, and vectorizes the molecular information of a target molecule and surrounding molecules; a feature extractor that receives the vectorized information of the target molecule and surrounding molecules and extracts the features of the target molecule and surrounding molecules; an integrated feature extractor that receives both features of the target molecule and surrounding molecules and extract the integrated features of the target molecule and surrounding molecules by using an algorithm; and an optical property predictor that receives the integrated features of the target molecule and surrounding molecules and predicts optical properties of the target molecule affected by surrounding molecules.

Abstract: An information processing system includes a storage device that stores therein a trained model, and a processor. The trained model is trained to output a position and shape of an object in a training image based on training data. The training data is data in which the training image is provided with an annotation indicating the position and shape of the object. The training image is an image captured with an angle of view including the object whose position and shape are not clearly displayed in an image. The processor executes detection processing on a detection image to output detected information indicating the position and shape of the object. The processor then causes a display device to display the detected information superimposed on the detection image.

Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a wind-solar reactor system and a working method thereof. The wind-solar reactor system comprises a nuclear reactor system, a wind power generation system, a solar power storage system and a balance energy system, wherein the nuclear reactor system uses an integrated small modular reactor design, the solar power storage system uses a tower-type solar power storage system design, and a hydrogen production system uses a copper-chlorine cycle hydrogen production technology. A reactor keeps rated full-power operation, generated electricity is adjusted and distributed through a power controller, most of the electricity is used for smoothing the fluctuation of wind power generation, and the excess electricity is used for hydrogen storage of the hydrogen system. Solar power is used for heating saturated steam generated by the reactor into superheated steam through a heater, and then the superheated steam enters a high-pressure cylinder to do work by expansion.

According to the present invention there is a method of manufacturing a platform for use in bio-sensing applications comprising the steps of: a) providing a substrate having electrodes thereon; b) performing an overprinting step by overprinting the electrodes with a precursor solution; c) performing a drying step to dry the precursor solution to form a print layer on the electrodes; d) performing a further overprinting step by overprinting the print layer with a precursor solution to increase the print layer thickness; e) performing a transformation step to at least partially transform the print layer from a first substance to a second substance different to the first substance.

Abstract: A design method for an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) aided terahertz secure communication system is provided. The IRS aided terahertz multi-input single-output (MISO) system includes a base station (BS) equipped with NBS antennas, an IRS equipped with NIRS reflecting elements, a single-antenna user and a single-antenna eavesdropper. The BS transmits signals by the active hybrid beamforming to the relay of the IRS, and the IRS adjusts the signals and reflects the signals to the mobile user, which suppresses the received signal of the eavesdropper. The present invention maximizes the downlink secrecy rate by establishing a joint optimization function and maximizes the system data transmission rate by a cross-entropy based search method.

Abstract: A maize ear scanning device and computer vision kernel counting pipeline is used to analyze a maize ear. The process of analyzing the maize ear comprises: placing the ear on a rotating motor, fastened at the top with a metal pin on the sliding portion of the scanner; starting the motor's rotation; capturing an image of rotating ear with camera; converting rotating ear video into flat image by extracting individual frames, cropping to center horizontal pixel row, and concatenating all pixel rows; and running computer vision pipeline on image to identify seed locations.
