Abstract: Data is encoded for identification and labeling using a multitude of nano-electro-mechanical structures formed on a substrate. The number of such structures, their shapes, choice of materials, the spacing therebetween and the overall distribution of the structures result in a vibrational pattern or an acoustic signature that uniquely corresponds to the encoded data. A first group of the structures is formed in conformity with the design rules of a fabrication process used to manufacture the device that includes the structures. A second group of the structures is formed so as not to conform to the design rules and thereby to undergo variability as a result of the statistical variations that is inherent in the fabrication process.

Abstract: DNA aptamers that bind to tau protein at its phosphorylatable sites are identified. These disclosed DNA aptamers not only recognize tau at specific phosphorylatable sites, but also demonstrate inhibitory effects on phosphorylation and oligomer formation of tau protein. Molecular probes based on these disclosed DNA aptamers can be used as capture or detection agents to detect the levels of tau and phosphor-tau in cerebrospinal fluid as well as for cell-based or in vivo brain imaging in live animals or human. Compositions comprising these disclosed DNA aptamers can be used to arrest or treat the progression of tauopathy associated neurodegenerative disorders.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems for the identification and characterization of perivascular spaces in the cerebral vasculature using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. The disclosed methods allow for automated and unbiased quantification of enlarged perivascular space (ePVS) in a subject, and thus can provide a substantial improvement over manual grading methods used in the art. An example method includes receiving an MRI dataset including voxels having intensity values, identifying a set of candidate voxels within the MRI dataset based on the intensity values; grouping the set of candidate voxels into a set of first clusters; filtering the set of first clusters to generate a set of second clusters; and filtering the set of second clusters based on a morphologic constraint, thereby identifying an enlarged perivascular space in the MRI dataset.

Abstract: A light emitting diode (LED) apparatus is described that applies plasmonic nanoparticles to enhance multicolor emitting materials, such as quantum dots (QDs) or fluorophores, in the color conversion layer of micro-LED and suppress the UV transmission. The metal nanoparticles, including but not limited to, aluminum, gold, copper, platinum, and silver have surface plasmon resonances in or close to the wavelength of excitation light or the wavelength of emission colors. UV or blue excitation over a color conversion layer formed by the mixture of emitting materials and scattering nanoparticles leads to enhancement of emission and thus increase in their quantum efficiency. An excitation filter is also used with in the LED apparatus to block the transmission of UV or blue excitation.
