Abstract: The present invention relates to a fiber composite for a strain sensor and a method for producing the same. The composite includes a stretchable fiber; a conductive elastic polymer layer coated on the stretchable fiber; polymer beads disposed on the stretchable fiber or on the elastic polymer layer; and a conductive elastic polymer layer covering the polymer beads. The fiber composite is durable and stable. Therefore, a strain sensor produced using the fiber composite exhibits excellent durability, recoverability, repeatability and sensitivity, and a fast sensing speed.

Abstract: We hereby disclose and claim a mathematically based system for design and implementation synthetic biology genetic circuitry architecture which uses genetic expression circuits which are linked together to achieve a therapeutic or diagnostic effect. The genetic architecture that enables the reversible and tunable desired gene product output is achieved by genetic control elements upstream and downstream of a promoter region. Abstract: Disclosed are new small molecules having a pyrrolopyrimidine core structure and the uses thereof for modulating glucocerebrosidase activity. Abstract: The disclosure extends to biodegradable hollow nanoparticles, and systems, methods, devices, and processes for producing the same. The disclosure includes a method of preparing a hollow mesoporous nanoparticle by providing a plurality of silica core particles. Each of the plurality of silica core particles comprises a diameter within a range of about 600 nanometers to about 30 nanometers. The method further includes synthesizing a mesoporous silica shell around the plurality of silica core particles forming a plurality of mesoporous coated silica core particles. Further, the method provides for etching the plurality of mesoporous coated silica core particles with an aqueous solution of sodium carbonate and water to remove the silica core particle from the plurality of mesoporous coated silica core particles forming a plurality of hollow mesoporous particles. The method also includes diffusing a payload into the plurality of hollow mesoporous particles in an aqueous solution.

Abstract: Methods are disclosed for reducing the proliferation of a tumor cell, increasing apoptosis of a tumor cell, and/or decreasing migration of a tumor cell. These methods include contacting the tumor cell with an effective amount of solubilized ECM or a soluble fraction of extracellular matrix (ECM), thereby reducing the proliferation of the tumor cell, increasing apoptosis of the tumor cell, and/or decreasing migration of the tumor cell. Methods are also disclosed for treating a subject with a tumor. The methods include administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising a soluble fraction of an ECM and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, thereby treating the tumor in the subject. In specific non-limiting examples, the tumor is a glioma and/or the ECM hydrogel is a urinary bladder ECM hydrogel.
