  • Patent number: 10485903
Abstract: An embodiment includes a process for treating an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) endoleak with a shape memory polymer (SMP) foam device. First, a bifurcated stent graft is placed within the aneurysm while a micro guidewire is positioned within the aneurysm for future catheter access. Second, after placing the iliac graft extension, a catheter is introduced over wire to deliver embolic foams. Third, embolic foams expand and conform to the aneurysm wall. Fourth, embolic foams create a stable thrombus to prevent endoleak formation by isolating peripheral vessels from the aneurysm volume.

  • Publication number: 20190353807
Abstract: The invention provides a novel arrangement of photon sensors on a scintillation-crystal based gamma-ray detector that takes advantage of total internal reflection of scintillation light within the scintillation detector substrate. The present invention provides improved spatial resolution including depth-of-interaction (DOI) resolution while preserving energy resolution and detection efficiency, which is especially useful in small-animal or human positron emission tomography (PET) or other techniques that depend on high-energy gamma-ray detection. Moreover, the new geometry helps reduce the total number of readout channels required and eliminates the need to do complicated and repetitive cutting and polishing operations to form pixelated crystal arrays as is the standard in current PET detector modules.

The PEG tube includes a hollow drainage tubing coupled to a ventilated bell cap. The bell cap can be open or closed to the external environment is ventilated via apertures, crenellations and grooves, and hemispherical arches. The PEG tube minimizes, or completely eliminates, the need for a user thereof to frequently flush the tube, thus also curtailing intermittent suctioning and allowing for longer periods of uninterrupted drainage. Furthermore, the PEG tubes of the current invention reduce clogging of the tube by larger gastric matter that is intended to be suctioned out of the patient or subject.

Abstract: The present invention provides minimally invasive methods of detecting, diagnosing, and assessing neuronal damage associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI) or chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Specific species of microRNAs (miRNA), small, noncoding RNA molecules that play gene regulatory functions, are correlated with cellular damage and oxidative stress following TBI or CTE, allowing for rapid, minimally-invasive diagnosis and assessment of brain injury. The early identification and longitudinal assessment of neuronal damage in subjects suffering from or at risk of suffering from a TBI (e.g., football players, boxers, military personnel, fall victims) will improve clinical outcomes by guiding critical medical and behavioral decision making.
