Abstract: A syngas generation system that combines a solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) and a carbon gasification unit is described. On the cathode side of the SOEC, CO2 and H2O are electrochemically converted to syngas. At the anode side of the system, a second stream of syngas is produced through a carbon gasification process in which solid carbon is reacted with H2O/CO2. Oxygen ion transported across the SOEC electrolyte reacts at the anode with a portion of the syngas produced in the gasification process. This reaction product (H2O/CO2) can be fed back to the gasification unit.

Abstract: Provided herein is a two-component photosensitizer, which demonstrated robust and selective killing effects for transfected HEK cells and affibody targeted A431 cancer cells when exposed to near infrared light excitation. Free MG2I is a pure and stable fluorogen; it is easy to synthesize and modify, and has no toxicity to cells. Unlike conventional photosensitizers, the dye and FAP itself has no photosensitizing effect until they are bound. Also unlike other activation methods, the activation step is achieved by adding the fluorogen, not the presence of the targeted molecule, requiring an ‘active’ activation instead of a ‘passive’ activation. This method offers the ability to locally switch-on and selective generation of singlet oxygen at the target site and can be used for a wide variety of molecular targets.
Abstract: A carbothermic reduction method is provided for reducing a La-, Ce-, MM-, and/or Y-containing oxide in the presence of carbon and a source of a reactant element comprising Si, Ge, Sn, Pb, As, Sb, Bi, and/or P to form an intermediate alloy material including a majority of La, Ce, MM, and/or Y and a minor amount of the reactant element. The intermediate material is useful as a master alloy for in making negative electrode materials for a metal hydride battery, as hydrogen storage alloys, as master alloy additive for addition to a melt of commercial Mg and Al alloys, steels, cast irons, and superalloys; or in reducing Sm2O3 to Sm metal for use in Sm—Co permanent magnets.

Abstract: A two-step switching method of circuit switch can be used in a charge pump circuit of a phase locked loop circuit. In the method, a first type switch and a second type switch which have the same sizes and are opposite in type, are provided. The first type switch and second type switch continuously receive an input current, and the input current is kept at a low current state in a first stage before the first type switch and the second type switch are turned on. In a second stage, the first type switch and the second type switch are turned on, the input current is gradually adjusted to a target current state, and the input current of the target current state is gradually supplied to an external circuit. The present method can reduce noise generated by the external circuit, reduce power loss, and offset charge injection.
Abstract: A method of localizing portable apparatus (200) obtains: a stored experience data set comprising a set of connected nodes; captured location representation data provided by at least one sensor associated with the portable apparatus, and a current pose estimate of the portable apparatus within the environment. The pose estimate is used to select a candidate set of the nodes that contain a potential match for the captured location representation data. The pose estimate is used to obtain a set of paths from path memory data, each said path comprising a set of said nodes previously traversed in the environment under similar environmental/visual conditions. The set of paths is used to refine the candidate set. The captured location representation data and the refined candidate set of nodes is compared in order to identify a current pose of the portable apparatus within the environment.

Abstract: A novel methodology for computing the medial axis/skeleton of a discrete binary object using a ‘divide and conquer’ algorithm, in which any 3D object is first sliced into a series of 2D images in X, Y and Z directions. Then, a geometric (Voronoi) algorithm is applied on each 2D image to extract the respective medial axis. This information is then combined to reconstruct the medial axis of the original 3D object using an intersection technique. An optional 3D interpolation step to achieve continuous connected skeletons uses Delaunay triangles and a spherical search to establish the nearest neighboring points in 3D space to interpolate between. Test results show that the proposed 3D Voronoi and optional interpolation algorithms are able to accurately and efficiently extract medial axes for complex 3D objects as well. Finally, an axis-smoothing algorithm using the same Delaunay triangle and spherical test is operable to remove unwanted noise from the extracted medial axis.
Abstract: The present invention belongs to the flue gas desulfuration field. Specifically, the present invention relates to a supported solid-phase catalyst for oxidizing the by-product magnesium sulfite in a magnesium desulfuration process, and to preparation method and use thereof. The catalyst uses an activated carbon particle as a support, and cobalt nitrate, manganese nitrate, copper nitrate and ferrous nitrate as catalytically active components. The preparation method is as follows: mixing the pre-treated activated carbon support with the catalytically active components, followed by oscillating, standing under microwave irradiation, filtrating, drying, baking, so as to obtain the supported solid-phase catalyst.
