Abstract: A multifunctional electromagnetic structure is presently disclosed. Said structure is a true electromagnetic bandgap (“EBG”) material, with both surface and leaky waves suppressed from the whole structure along all lateral directions. It is also an antenna element, configured to radiate to the broadside direction. The structure has two metallization layers of concentric rings between a square-shaped radiating top metal layer and a bottom ground plane. The lower concentric ring is connected to the ground plane through a plurality of vias, while the patch of the top metal layer is fed with a probe. The EBG unit cells may be used as antenna elements in a phased array environment, where they eliminate scan blindness from the array structure along all scan directions.

Abstract: The compositions of the present disclosure provide novel fluorogenic probes for use in the specific imaging and detection of mycobacteria species, and in particular ?-lactam-antibiotic resistant. Specificity for mycobacteria is conferred on these probes by incorporating a moiety that specifically targets the unique trapping mechanism of the DprE1 found in in mycobacteria. Accordingly, only Mycobacteria species that express both a ?-lactamase and DprE1 enable both the activation of the caged fluorescent probe, and the affixing of the released fluorescent probes to the bacteria cells through the functioning reduction-covalent binding mechanism. Advantageously, such a probe is able, at its most sensitive, to allow single mycobacterium detection.

Abstract: The treatment of many ocular disorders is hampered because of poor penetration of systemically administered drugs into the eye. The tight junctional complexes (zonulae occludens) of the retinal pigment epithelium and retinal capillaries are the site of the blood-ocular barrier. This barrier inhibits penetration of substances, including antibiotics, into the vitreous. Over the last 18 years we have evaluated the nontoxic doses of various drugs. These include antibiotics and antifungals for treatment of bacterial and fungal endophthalmitis, antivirals for treatment of viral retinitis (specifically, when medication with these drugs poses the threat of toxicity to other organs). Intravitreal antineoplastic drugs have been studied to prevent cell proliferation in the vitreous cavity after retinal attachment surgery, which can lead to proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR).
Abstract: A passive knee locking mechanism using the position of the shank and the weight of the user to lock. The mechanism has translational motion, which allows the shank to move linearly along the sagittal/vertical plane, which locks and unlocks the knee, and rotational motion for the shank to swing when unlocked. The knee block, which is disposed at the top of the shank, has a spur gear that locks with a matching gear rack on the top plate of the knee housing. The side plates for the knee housing have a linear path that makes for the translational motion. During heel strike, the stopper in the front plate of the knee housing positions the shank in a straight position. When the user applies their weight for initiating stance phase, the knee block traverses up the path and the spur gear meshes with the matching rack, locking the knee.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for improving a tolerance to a salt stress or a drought stress of a plant, and a method for preparing transformed plant exhibiting improved tolerance to salt stress or drought stress. The nucleotide sequences of the present invention are involved in salt or drought stress-tolerance, therefore may be effectively used for cultivating the plants with novel functional features which are less affected by climates and environments of the cultivated areas.
