    Abstract: Apparatus and method for improved cavitation-induced drug delivery is disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for delivering a treatment composition to a target tissue using ultrasound includes: directing ultrasound waveforms toward the target tissue of a patient; generating ultrasound shock fronts at the target tissue of a patient; generating a cavitation inside the target tissue of a patient by the ultrasound shock front; and delivering the treatment composition to the patient. Absorption of the treatment composition by the target tissue is increased by the cavitation inside the target tissue. In some embodiments, the treatment composition may be delivered within a time period of +/?1 week from generating the cavitation.

    Abstract: An amorphous thin film stack can include a first layer including a combination metals or metalloids including: 5 at % to in 90 at % of a metalloid; 5 at % to 90 at % of a first metal and a second metal independently selected from titanium, vanadium, chromium, iron, cobalt, nickel, niobium, molybdenum, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, tantalum, tungsten, osmium, iridium, or platinum. The three elements may account for at least 70 at % of the amorphous thin film stack. The stack can further include a second layer formed on a surface of the first layer. The second layer can be an oxide layer, a nitride layer, or a combination thereof. The second layer can have an average thickness of 10 angstroms to 200 microns and a thickness variance no greater than 15% of the average thickness of the second layer.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for corneal imaging and sensing are provided. Apparatus capable of utilizing single or multiple frequency emissions at terahertz (THz) wavelengths to create reflectivity maps of the cornea in either a contact or non-contact modes are also provided. Methods of obtaining data from THz imaging and sensing apparatus about the corneal tissue-aqueous humor system, including information about the corneal tissue water content (CTWC) and/or the central corneal thickness (CCT) are likewise provided. Methodologies may use multiple transfer functions (frequencies) in obtaining simultaneous data about CTWC and CCT. Methods using frequency sweeping to allow for determination of CTWC and CCT may also be utilized. Methods may also be used to assess CTWC using multiple bandwidths at the same frequency, or multiple frequencies at the same bandwidth. Methods may use data from CTWC measurements to aid in the diagnosis of various corneal and brain disorders.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a device and method for a microfluidic paper-based analytical device (?PAD), for low-cost and user-friendly analytical devices capable of use for disease screening, point-of-care pathogen and biomarker detection, food and water quality testing. A microfluidic paper-based analytical device is further produced by chemical vapor deposition for multiplex heavy metal detection in water. Assay demonstrations proved that the immobilization of functional groups and multiplex heavy metal detection is suitable for real-world applications and established the approach for DNA analysis. The disclosed invention comprises multilayer capability, including the ability for various biomolecules to be immobilized with charge interaction.
