Abstract: Devices and methods for super-resolution optical microscopy are described. Devices include an optical multiplexer to develop an excitation/illumination optical beam that includes alternating pulses of different profiles. Devices also include a signal processing unit to process a sample response to excitation/illumination beam and to subtract the neighboring pulses of the different profiles from one another on a pulse-to-pulse basis. Devices can be incorporated in existing confocal microscopy designs. As the subtraction effectively reduces the volume of the response signal, the spatial resolution of the systems can be markedly improved as compared to previously known optical microscopy approaches.
Abstract: Methods treating pulmonary hypertension, including pulmonary arterial hypertension, are provided, and include administering a polypeptide antagonist of a Na/K ATPase/Src receptor complex to a subject in need thereof. Abstract: An apparatus for determining unknown radio frequencies is described. The apparatus modulates a first optical signal from tunable optical source with RF signal that includes unknown center frequency value to generate modulated optical signal. The apparatus combines modulated optical signal with second optical signal to generate combined modulated optical signal. The apparatus receives output electrical signal from photodetector in response to receiving combined modulated optical signal at photodetector, splits output electrical signal into first output electrical signal and second output electrical signal, and filter first output electrical signal by applying first optical bandpass filter centered to generate first filtered RF signal. The apparatus tunes tunable optical source to first beat frequency value to determine unknown frequency value of RF signal.

Abstract: A freeform surface off-axis three-mirror optical system comprises a primary mirror, a secondary mirror, a tertiary mirror, an aperture stop located on the secondary mirror, and an image surface. An incident light beam emitted from an object irradiates and is reflected on the primary mirror to form a first reflected light beam. The first reflected light beam irradiates and is reflected on the secondary mirror to form a second reflected light beam. The second reflected light beam passes through the incident light beam, and then irradiates and is reflected on the tertiary mirror to form a third reflected light beam. The third reflected light beam passes through the incident light beam and does not pass through the secondary mirror, and finally reaches the image surface for imaging. A reflective surface of each of the primary mirror, the secondary mirror, and the tertiary mirror is an xy polynomial freeform surface.

Abstract: Methods and software for electrochemical energy storage management including operation, planning, and valuation. The decision objective for operation is to maximize the total/remaining life-cycle benefit of electrochemical energy storage, subject to degradation and other operational constraints. The operational decisions are both short term and long term, to address the intertemporal trade-offs brought by degradation issues. Two metrics are proposed for operational and planning decisions respectively: marginal benefit of usage and average benefit of usage. A sample algorithm is provided to solve the multi-timescale optimization problem.
Abstract: A multi-angle spinneret for forming hollow fibers is provided. The multi-angle spinneret includes a body defining a dope chamber, a bore needle channel, and multiple dope channels being oriented at a minimum of two distinct dope channel angles relative to the dope chamber. The body includes a bore needle disposed in the bore needle channel and oriented substantially perpendicular relative to the dope chamber. The bore needle extends though the dope chamber, such that a bore fluid flow through the bore needle is kept separate from a dope flow through the dope channels. A bore fluid outlet is positioned within a dope outlet of the dope chamber, such that a bore fluid flow out of the bore fluid outlet is substantially coaxial with and substantially centered within a dope flow out of the dope outlet.

Abstract: The present invention, at least in part, relates to the discovery of efficacious delivery of an RNAi agent (in preferred aspects of the invention, an siRNA) to a transplantable tissue. Organ rejection, transplantation-mediated transmission of viral infection, and triggering of apoptosis in transplanted tissues can each be minimized by the methods and compositions of the instant invention. The RNAi agent(s) of the instant invention can be delivered as “naked” molecules, or using liposomal and other modes of delivery, to transplantable tissues. Such delivery can occur via perfusion of the RNAi agent in solution through the vasculature of a whole or partial organ; or tissues including transplantable cells and cell lines may be bathed, injected or otherwise treated with RNAi agents. Preferred transplantable tissues include, for example, pancreas, liver, kidney, heart, lung, and all cells and cell lines derived from such tissues (e.g., pancreatic islet cells that may, e.g.
