  • Patent number: 9738706
Abstract: Anti-cytokine therapy has revolutionized immunological disease treatment, but is not always effective and subject to treatment resistance as the cytokine cascade is highly redundant and multiple cytokines are involved in inflammation. Targeting a critical common regulator of inflammatory effectors is desirable. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-responsive beige-like anchor (LRBA) is a master regulator of multiple genes important for inflammation. Subcellular localization shows that LRBA translocated to the nucleus upon LPS stimulation and colocalized with multiple proteins associated with the endosome membrane system, indicating a critical role in membrane/vesicle trafficking essential for deposition, secretion and signal transduction of immune effectors.

  • Patent number: 9738986
Abstract: The present invention refers to a method of manufacturing layered metal oxide particles, the method comprising: placing a metal electrode in an electrolyte; and applying an electrical voltage to the electrode, wherein the metal electrode forms the anode, to form a metal oxide layer on the electrode surface, wherein the electrical voltage applied is higher than the breakdown voltage of the metal oxide, thereby breaking down the metal oxide layer formed on the electrode surface into metal oxide particles that react with the electrolyte to form the layered metal oxide particles. The present invention also refers to a layered metal oxide particle obtained from the method, and a method of manufacturing a crystalline metal oxide nanosheet or a crystalline metal oxide nanoribbon.

  • Patent number: 9738677
Abstract: Disclosed is a derivative of amphotericin B (AmB), denoted C2?epiAmB, with an improved therapeutic index over amphotericin B, pharmaceutical compositions comprising the AmB derivative, methods of making the AmB derivative and the pharmaceutical composition, and their use in methods of inhibiting growth of a yeast or fungus and treating a yeast or fungal infection. C2?epiAmB is an epimer of the parent compound. Specifically, C2?epiAmB differs from the parent compound at the C2? stereogenic center on mycosamine. This difference in structure results in (i) retained capacity to bind ergosterol and inhibit growth of yeast, (ii) greatly reduced capacity to bind cholesterol, and (iii) essentially no toxicity to human cells.

  • Patent number: 9737492
Abstract: This disclosure relates to nanoparticle drug delivery systems composed of casein (CN) coated nanoparticles, e.g., iron oxide nanoparticles coated with an inner layer and an out layer comprising the milk protein casein. In certain embodiments, drug molecules are incorporated into an inner polymeric layer coating the nanoparticles, which are subsequently coated with a casein containing outer layer, i.e., a layer-by-layer (LBL) construction. Oral administration of these casein coated nanoparticles are contemplated as experiments indicated sufficiently stability in conditions that simulate the conditions of the gut. Drugs that were loaded into the nanoparticle systems were released when the casein outer layer was gradually degraded in the presence of an intestinal protease meant to simulate conditions of the intestine.
