  • Patent number: 9729856
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for reliable 3D shape extraction of a metal surface. In this method, images are acquired at the same time by simultaneously irradiating interference-free polarized lights to a metal object. A photometric stereo method is then applied based on the images except for images which make the extraction of a 3D shape of the metal object inaccurate.

  • Patent number: 9724832
Abstract: The invention relates to an elastic corrugated pipe single-acting cylinder-driven mechanical gripper with a series-connection plate spring framework. The mechanical gripper consists of a palm and two flexible fingers or a palm and three flexible fingers. The flexible fingers are identical in structure. Each flexible finger consists of an elastic corrugated pipe single-acting cylinder and a series-connection plate spring. Dimensions of all plate springs connected in series are optimally designed according to grasping objects. The mechanical gripper is driven by the elastic corrugated pipe single-acting cylinder to generate a grasping force. The mechanical gripper applies to the grasping of fragile, brittle objects or the grasping of objects varying with shapes and dimensions. When connected with a robot body, the mechanical gripper particularly applies to the production and logistic fields for grasping, sorting and packing of foods, agriculture products and light industrial products.

  • Patent number: 9724398
Abstract: Thrombostasin is an anti-clotting protein found in saliva of Haematobia irritans. Disclosed herein are studies testing blood uptake of horn flies feeding on cattle which confirm the association of ts genotype with blood uptake of horn flies. Blood uptake volumes of homozygous ts10 horn flies were lower than those of other ts genotypes when fed on control cattle. Cattle vaccinated with recombinant protein isoforms rTS9 or rTB8 resisted horn fly feeding by yielding lower blood volumes compared to flies feeding on control cattle. The impact of vaccination varied by ts genotype of flies. Cattle vaccinated with isoforms rTS9 resisted flies of ts2, ts9, and tb8 genotype. Vaccination with isoforms rTB8 produced resistance to ts8, ts9 and tb8 genotype flies. Horn flies of genotype ts10 were not affected with either TS isoforms and fed well on rTS9 and rTB9 vaccinated as on control-vaccinated cattle.

  • Patent number: 9726679
Abstract: The spectral method for quantifying hemoglobin fragility caused by smoking is based on decreased concentration of tryptophan and elevated concentrations of the biomolecules nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH), flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), and porphyrin in the presence of hemoglobin fragility. The method involves the steps of obtaining a blood sample from a patient who is a smoker; separating blood plasma from the samples; obtaining synchronous excitation spectra (SXS) of the blood plasma with a spectrofluorometer at a scan offset of 70 nm and at a scan offset of 10 nm; comparing the patient's SXS with the SXS of normal control samples; and diagnosing hemoglobin fragility when the excitation maxima of NADH, FAD, and porphyrin are between 30% and 70% higher than the maxima for these metabolites in the normal control samples, or when the excitation maximum for tryptophan is 60% of the control sample.

  • Patent number: 9724532
Abstract: A helmet is used to detachably secure a TMS coil to the head of a patient. The helmet has a flexible sack containing a multiplicity of beads and also has a valve that permits air to enter and to be withdrawn from the interior volume of the sack. The handle of the TMS coil is inserted into the helmet, and the helmet is placed upon the head of a patient. Withdrawing air from the interior volume of the sack through the valve causes the sack to shrink and compresses the beads into a compact mass that conforms to the shape of the patient's head. Maintaining the vacuum causes the sack to retain its shape, making it possible to hold the helmet and TMS coil in proper position during a TMS study.
