Abstract: It was determined whether SNPs in SLC4A5 are associated with salt sensitivity of blood pressure (BP). Subjects consumed an isocaloric constant diet with a randomized order of 7 days low Na+ (10 mmol/d) and 7 days high Na+ (300 mmol/d) intake. Salt sensitivity was defined as a ?7 mm Hg increase in mean arterial pressure (MAP). 35 polymorphisms in 17 candidate genes were assayed. Association analyses with salt sensitivity revealed three variants that associated with salt sensitivity, two in SLC4A5 (rs7571842, rs10177833; P<0.001), and one in GRK4 (rs1801058; P=0.020). Paradoxical changes in blood pressure in response to changes in salt intake were also found associated with a SNP for DRD2 (rs6276). In conclusion, SLC4A5 variants are strongly associated with salt sensitivity of BP in Caucasian and a DRD2 SNP is a marker for paradoxical response to salt intake.

  • Publication number: 20150131330
Abstract: The invention discloses a bidirectional dc-dc converter system and circuit thereof. In boost mode, topology is combined with interleaved two-phase boost converter for providing a higher step-up voltage gain. In buck mode, topology is combined with interleaved two-phase buck converter in order to get a higher step-down conversion ratio. The main objectives of the invention are aimed to both store energy in the blocking capacitors (C1&C2) for increasing voltage conversion ratio and reduce voltage stresses of active switches simultaneously. As a result, the invention topology possesses a nice low switch voltage stress characteristic. This will allow one to choose lower voltage rating MOSFETs to reduce both switching and conduction losses, and overall efficiency can be enhanced. In addition, due to charge balance of the blocking capacitor, the converter features both automatic uniform current sharing characteristic of interleaved phases and without adding extra circuitry or using complex control methods.

  • Publication number: 20150129838
Abstract: Manipulation of the passivation ligands of colloidal quantum dots and use in QD electronics. A multi-step electrostatic process is described which creates bare QDs, followed by the formation of QD superlattice via electric and thermal stimulus. Colloidal QDs with original long ligands (i.e. oleic acid) are atomized, and loaded into a special designed tank to be washed, followed by another atomization step before entering the doping station. The final step is the deposition of bare QDs onto substrate and growth of QD superlattice. The method permits the formation of various photonic devices, such as single junction and tandem solar cells based on bare QD superlattice, photodetectors, and LEDs. The devices include a piezoelectric substrate with an electrode, and at least one layer of bare quantum dots comprising group IV-VI elements on the electrode, where the bare quantum dots have been stripped of outer-layer ligands.
