Abstract: There is provided a novel luminescent metal complex. A metal complex having a composition of [(PtII)2(MI)2(X)2(L)4(LH)2], where MI denotes AgI, AuI or CuI, X denotes Cl, Br or I, L denotes a structure represented by the formula (1), and LH denotes a structure represented by the formula (2).
Abstract: The method is used for separating nucleic acids and other similar constructs. It involves selective introduction, enhancement, or stabilization of affinity handles such as single-strandedness in the undesired (or desired) nucleic acids as compared to the usual structure (e.g., double-strandedness) of the desired (or undesired) nucleic acids. The undesired (or desired) nucleic acids are separated from the desired (or undesired) nucleic acids due to capture by methods including but not limited to immobilized metal affinity chromatography, immobilized single-stranded DNA binding (SSB) protein, and immobilized oligonucleotides.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for characterizing a sample having a structure disposed on or within the sample, comprising the steps of applying a first pulse of light to a surface of the sample for creating a propagating strain pulse in the sample, applying a second pulse of light to the surface so that the second pulse of light interacts with the propagating strain pulse in the sample, sensing from a reflection of the second pulse a change in optical response of the sample, and relating a time of occurrence of the change in optical response to at least one dimension of the structure.
Abstract: A video annotation method by integrating visual features and frequent patterns is disclosed. This method is featured in integrating a statistical model based on visual features with a sequential model and an association model constructed by data mining skills for automatically annotating unknown videos. This method takes both of visual features and semantic patterns into consideration simultaneously through the combination of three different models so as to enhance the accuracy of annotation.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating available throughput of a fixed node in a mobile node of a communication network. The communication network includes fixed nodes connected to a router connected to at least one foreign network and mobile nodes connected to the fixed nodes. A second mobile node is selected from among mobile nodes connected to a fixed node whose available throughput is estimated in a first mobile node. An idle slot interval of the second mobile node connected to the fixed node is set. A transmission probability is measured in one slot interval of the second mobile node through an average of set idle slot intervals. Transmission information of the second mobile node is acquired using the measured transmission probability. The available throughput of the fixed node is estimated using the acquired transmission information.

Abstract: Carbon with mesopores (about two to fifteen nanometers in average pore size) is made using sucrose as a source of carbon, and silica and phosphoric acid as templates for the mesopore structure in the carbon. A silica sol is prepared in a water/ethanol medium and sucrose is dispersed in the sol. Phosphoric acid may be added to the sol to control pore size in the mesopore size range. The sol is dried, carbonized, and the silica and phosphate materials removed by leaching. The residue is a mesoporous carbon mass having utility as a catalyst support, gas absorbent, and the like.

Abstract: The present invention is based, in part, on the discovery that parvovirus (including AAV) capsids can be engineered to incorporate small, selective regions from other parvoviruses that confer desirable properties. The inventors have discovered that in some cases as little as a single amino acid insertion or substitution from a first parvovirus (e.g., an AAV) into the capsid structure of another parvovirus (e.g., an AAV) to create a chimeric parvovirus is sufficient to confer one or more of the desirable properties of the first parvovirus to the resulting chimeric parvovirus and/or to confer a property that is not exhibited by the first parvovirus or is present to a lesser extent.
