Abstract: Data measured by PS-OCT is corrected in a non-linear manner to enhance the quantitative analysis capability of PS-OCT and permit accurate quantitative diagnosis, including diagnosis of disease stage of lesions, as a useful means for computer diagnosis. Even when retardation per PS-OCT 1 contains error and becomes noise and its distribution is not normal or symmetrical around the true value, measured data is converted using a distribution conversion function obtained by analyzing the characteristics of noise via Monte Carlo simulation to remove the systematic error and estimate the true value otherwise buried in noise and thereby correct the PS-OCT 1 image more clearly.

Abstract: This invention relates to a self leveling walker to assist persons who have insufficient strength or movement in their legs when standing and walking on uneven surfaces, and for traversing ramps and stairs. The inventive self leveling walker includes a frame assembly with a leveling assembly for adapting the relative length of the four legs of the walker to accommodate a substantially constant level of the walker so that the user may maintain an erect standing posture at all times, without the need to lean forward or back to accommodate uneven surfaces. The invention employs a fluid or gas based circuit between the front and back walker legs on each respective side, so as to shorten or lengthen each front and back leg with respect to each other, thereby maintaining the overall level of the walker on the subject surface being traversed.

Abstract: Sterilizable separator tubes and methods of utilization of same are presented. Methods include providing a separator tube containing a separator substance that can be polymerized to a desired hardness following sterilization using radical generating radiation. The separator substance is formulated to have a density between that of the average densities of separable fractions derived from a sample fluid such as blood, and to be flowable. Upon centrifugation of a separator tube containing a fluid sample, the separator substance forms a barrier between the fractions. The barrier subsequently hardens to form a solid barrier when triggered by a suitable energy source.

Abstract: A pump light pulse is generating a strain pulse in a sample that includes quantum wells. A signal is measured using a probe light pulse. The probe light pulse is delayed in relation to the pump light pulse. The signal derives from a change in an optical property of the sample, which optical property responds to the generated strain pulse. One may deduce parameters of interest of the sample, including the quantum wells, from the characteristics of the signal. For discerning between various components of the stress in the quantum wells a lead pump pulse, preceding the pump light, pulse my also be used. A system for the application of such methods is also disclosed.
