Abstract: An apparatus and method for in-depth fluorescence imaging using two-photon fluorescence imaging in turbid media. The apparatus includes a detector which can significantly enhance the use of a detection method that allows to efficiently collect scattered fluorescence photons from a wide area of the turbid sample. By using this detector it is possible to perform imaging of turbid samples, simulating brain tissue at depths up to 3 mm, where the two-photon induced fluorescence signal is too weak to be detected by previous means used in conventional two-photon microscopy. The detector separates the excitation and detection optics which allows a more efficient collection of fluorescence and enhancing the possible imaging depth.

The method includes identifying, on the subject, a body region affected by RLS, placing an emitter unit in direct contact with skin of the body region, wherein the emitter unit includes at least one emitter that emits near-infrared light, and activating the emitter to emit an effective amount of near-infrared light for inducing release of nitric oxide from hemoglobin or generation in the endothelium. Also disclosed is an emitter unit that is placed in direct contact with a subject's skin associated with RLS to reduce the effects of RLS. The emitter unit emits an effective amount of near-infrared light directed to the subject's skin to induce release of nitric oxide from hemoglobin or generation in the endothelium, and a module configured to toggle the emitter unit between a transmitting and a nontransmitting mode.
Abstract: Several QTLs that are genetically linked to resistance to soybean cyst nematode (SCN) are disclosed. These QTLs have been mapped to genomic regions on Chrs. 4, 8, 10, 11, 18, and 20 of soybean, G. max. Candidate genes underlying these QTLs as defined by the flanking markers, as well as genetic markers associated with these QTLs are also disclosed. These markers can be utilized for introgressing SCN resistance into non-resistant soybean germplasm. The unique resistance genes can be introduced into a non-resistant plant by marker-assisted selection (MAS) or by transgenic methods.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed to a ground reaction sensor cluster (GRSC) and to methods for precisely determining zero velocity points and bearing changes using a GRSC and for navigating using a GRSC and an inertial motion unit (IMU) in a global positioning satellite (GPS)-denied environment. The GRSC device itself includes an array of capacitive pressure and shear sensors. The array includes multiple flexible capacitive sensor cells that detect changes in capacitance in response to a footstep. Each cell of the array includes multiple overlapping, fingered capacitors that detect pressure and shear force by determining the change in capacitance in each fingered capacitor. The GRSC device also includes a multiplexing receiver that receives the capacitance inputs from each of the capacitive sensor cells. The multiplexing receiver and other electronic elements further process the received capacitance inputs to determine, based on the pressure and shear forces, the direction and bearing of the footstep.

Abstract: In methods and systems to authenticate systems in a quantum key distribution environment based on limited disclosures and identical, re-usable, pre-provisioned authentication keys, each system constructs an encryption key based on a corresponding one of transmitted events and detected events. Basis-sifting, error detection, error correction, and/or privacy amplification (PA) may be performed on the encryption keys based on limited disclosures (e.g., detection interval information, basis-sifting information, associated detection basis information, and/or parity measures). The authenticated keys may be modified based on disclosed detection information. Error detection and/or PA may be performed with identical pre-provisioned algorithms and pseudo-random values generated from the authenticated keys or modified authenticated keys. Final authenticated encryption keys are selectively constructed depending upon an extent of detected errors.

Abstract: Provided are a communication system and the like capable of making a stable relay route even when a propagation channel is fluctuated by the fluctuation of RSSI. For making a tree-type communication route whose root is a core node, each slave node, after the reception of the latest reset routing packet from a node, judges if the transmission source node should be the parent of the tree-type structure based on the sequential average of the reception power of n routing packets received from the same transmission source node. As the reception power is log-normally distributed in general, an asymptotically stable relay route can be obtained, especially by using the sequential average.

Abstract: A method for data encoding and associated decoding is based on the concept of batches that allows transmission of a large data file from a source node to multiple destination nodes through communication networks that may employ network coding wherein sparse matrix codes are employed in a network setting. A batch is a set of packets generated by a subset of the input packets using sparse matrix encoder. A sparse matrix encoder can be called repeatedly to generate multiple batches. The batches are generally independent of one another. During the transmission in a communication network, network coding can be applied to packets belonging to the same batch to improve the multicast throughput. A decoder recovers all or at least a fixed fraction of the input packets using received batches. The input packets can be pre-coded using a pre-code before applying sparse matrix codes. The data file can then be reconstructed by further decoding the pre-code.
Abstract: A motion state of a wearable motion-assist device of a doctor is sent to the wearable motion-assist device of a patient via a network. Furthermore, the motion state of the wearable motion-assist device of the patient is sent from the wearable motion-assist device to the wearable motion-assist device. Then, the motion state of the wearable motion-assist device is applied to the wearable motion-assist device. Accordingly, the doctor can objectively sense the state of the patient.
Abstract: Apparatus, assemblies, and methods for capturing objects within a body are disclosed. A surgical snare device includes a steerable deflection portion with a steerable distal tip. An interface is linked to the steerable deflection portion to selectively manipulate the distal tip. A snare loop disposed at the distal tip can have a length that remains substantially constant as the distal tip is deflected and the snare loop moves in concert with the distal tip. The distal tip may deflect up to at least one-hundred eighty degrees, while the snare loop moves a corresponding amount. A method includes extending a snare through a body lumen and to a location near an object. The snare may have a loop that changes positions while maintaining the same length. The loop may be placed around an object and then used to retrieve the object from the body lumen.
