  • Patent number: 4716972
Abstract: A floating semisubmersible off-shore drilling platform or the like comprises an upper working level portion and a lower pontoon portion. When the platform is transported from one place to another, it floats on the pontoon portion, but when it is working as a stationary unit in open water, it is submerged deeper, so that the pontoon portion is at a considerable distance below the water surface and the working level portion is at a considerable distance above the water surface. The platform is adapted to withstand ice pressure from ice occurring in the ambient water by giving the pontoon portion of the platform a form particularly advantageous in ice conditions. When ice occurs, the platform is lifted to such a position, that its pontoon portion comes to float at the water surface level.

  • Patent number: 4712506
Abstract: A system for two-sided coating of a running paper web. The device comprises an application device for spreading the coating material over both sides of the web running through a first nip formed by a rotating counter roll and a levelling member.According to the invention, the device includes an auxiliary roll, which is, in the direction of progress of the web, fitted at a certain distance from the first nip and which, together with the counter roll, forms a second nip for the web which has followed along with the said roll over the distance. The diameter of the auxiliary roll is substantially smaller than the diameter of the counter roll, and the face of the auxiliary roll is substantially harder than that of the counter roll. By means of the invention, the risk of damaging the coating at the side of the web facing the roll can be reduced by the web being detached from the second nip formed between the rolls.

  • Patent number: 4691488
Abstract: A method for producing a constructional element comprising a steel casing filled with concrete, for instance, a machine body having good load carrying and vibration-absorbing properties. The main steel parts of the element are arranged to form a hollow casing filled with a fluid concrete mass. Internal pressure is supplied in the casing to act on the concrete mass during its hardening phase, the pressure being selected so as to provide in the steel casing an elastic deformation and expansion which substantially exceeds the shrinkage of the concrete mass during its hardening phase. The internal pressure must be sufficient to cause such a deformation of the steel casing that there is a remaining compression between the steel casing against the dry shrunk concrete in the finished element under all the loading and deforming conditions for which the constructional element has been designed.
